We are planning to sell our home and take to the road in 5th wheeler. We are not sure what address to use for our driving licences, and what impact this will have when we come to register our truck and van. What do other full time travelers do? Any advice that you can offer would be much appreciated.

I can't help with your question but look forward to reading the answers you get at I too will be doing the same as you over the next few months. I am alread in the playground most of the year anyway but still have base camp, not for much longer though.

You will have to have an actual postal address in the state you are registering in. PO box isn't acceptable. Find a friend and use their address

We have been on the road for over 7 years now, ex Queensland. We have friends whose address we use for all mail and "official" stuff. Our drivers licences, vehicle and fifth wheeler registrations, ATO, banking, medicare, insurances - everything.
All you need is a letter from the friends (or relative or whoever is acting as your official address) that they give permission for you to use their address.

If you can get an address in Victoria rego is very cheap for a van there, if NSW and you are on a pension You can get one free rego each and free driving licenses but you have the problem of getting a pink slip every year after the vehicle is 5 years old, insurance is usually cheaper once you live away from the cities, it will probably come down to what is most convenient and where you can arrange your address.

We used our daughters address in Katherine, all mail went to her, and she advised us what she had, we told her where to send it on, ie c/- post office Woop Woop, making sure we would be in Woop Woop to receive it.
That worked OK in 2001, these days I think the internet, email or a mobile phone do the job. I pay nearly all of our bills on the net, very convenient when travelling.
For rego and licence where you do need to belong to a state, using a friend or rellies address is what most people do.
