Gday...
Love the photo...
My father had one of these - Studebaker Light Six when we lived in Biggenden QLD in 1951 -
He sold it early 1952 and bought an Essex Ute so we could carry all our belongs from Biggenden to Blackall QLD when he got a job droving sheep.
Incredibly, this carried me mum, me dad, me brother and me AND all our belongs in the back. I was five years old then .
Not a sealed road for the entire journey .... AH ... those were the years
Cheers - John

Gee, you blokes go back a ways. My first car when I was 18 in 1962 was a '51 Morris Oxford for 200 quid. 50 quid deposit. No wooden spoked wheels or canvas hood. The old Morris couldn't pull the skin off a rice custard but at least it looked as if it could.

Co-incidentally, I bought my first car in 1963, and it was a ........................ 1956 Hillman Minx.
The car shown in your piccie was known as the Special 4-D Saloon - later in 1956, they released the 'Gaylook' sedan - this had a chrome strip along the side and a 'winged' embellishment in front of the rear wheels - mine was Gisborne Green all over, but did not have a sun visor as shown the the attached piccie. Had it for 4 years then bought one of the first of the new Hillman Hunters in 1967. I still have a soft spot for Hillmans !
Hillman Hunters have featured much in the life of my brother and I.
We used to compete in rallies in Hillman Hunter GTs - overall four of them. Each one more developed then the previous one.
My brother still restores Hillman Hunter GTs. He has one GT fully restored in standard trim, another two on the way and about six in the back yard for 'spares' and future projects.
Here is a photo of us at the start of the Alpine International Rally at Bright in Victoria in 1970. (Geez they look young )
Cheers - John

I had a 1956 Hillman Husky S/Wagon.(Last of the side valves)
There was a spare parts place around Surrey Hills (Vic) Which I
frequented a lot. Especially for side plates and filters for the fuel pump.
The first car I ever owned was a 1928 Austin 12. ( I miss that car.)
