Yes the river road caravan park is one of the better one to stay in Mildura. We have several other caravan parks in Mildura , all good, and there is also a good one just over the the bridge in Buronga NSW. Right on the river, if that's what you want. As for the River Road Caravan Park, it 's a little bit out of town ( 5 min ) and all of the paddle boat cruses leave from the Mildura walf and also have plenty of parking.
Well worth the trip down, take your time and I'm certain that what ever caravan park you stay at ' We will make you welcome '.
On the other hand if you want to 'Free camp on the river' there is a lot of camping along the river and some great spots to be had.
I've lived in Mildura for just on 20 years and realy injoy the town and the atmisphere that the town has. A great place to live.
Well worth the trip.

You could check out the "Apex" CVP Margaret, Victoria side. I haven't actually stayed there but did get a good look around and it's next to the river and the paddle steamers turn around in front of you, very nice indeedy.

Welcome to the gang aussiedingo, enjoy here and out in the playground.
Maybe you could get yourself a copy of "Camps7" in the shops or on-line and maybe even grab the "Wikicamps" On-line camps finderer.
Good luck with it all.

Thanks Doug, I have a camps book but what I am looking for is the little primitive ones that only the locals know about not the ones everyone uses. Over the past 40 or 50 years of my camping I have accumulated quite a lot of favourite spots that I frequent, usually free camps. Thanks again, regards, norm

Currently staying in River Gardens CP which is the Buronga park mentioned. Nice tidy park and on the river, but no views from your site as a row of cabins have been constructed blocking any view. The other two parks mentioned both have direct access to the river. That said River Gardens is a nice park.

We have not stayed at the Golden River Holiday park(Big 4)But just a little info:-
We are currently doing a 2 month house sit at Buronga being NSW side of the Murray at Mildura. The location puts us 500m down from lock 11 and the PS Melbourne goes past our back door as to say twice a day. Mildura is blessed with many CPA's and many options from the Big 4 right through to very small parks located in and around the grape/citrus areas.
The most popular is the Buronga CP due to its location (NSW side directly opposite the wharf) and has had some excellent reviews.I agree with Dougie while not having stayed there, Apex CP has a beach, a nice aspect and not as busy as say Buronga CP. Two paddle steamers work this part of the river at Mildura, and we have checked Thursday lunch option on the Rothbury @$65- per head.

Yes, Camps 6/7 talk about Kings Billabong Reserve an Psych Bends. Both excellent locations in relation to the river and proximity to Mildura. However there are areas on both sides of the river that have rough dirt roads that access "bush" camping. There is a "common" on the NSW side down river road that has some nice spots in relation to views/access to the river.

Hi all, just did a weeks trip from Echuca up to swan Hill and back home via Ouyen etc etc , What we found that you really have to study the Camps 7 book. We went for a free camp at Nyah 20 odd Kms north of Swan Hill , my recommendation is STAY CLEAR , it was a disaster , the first half of the road was good but looked down the road to see only slush , tried to reverse out ( only option ) and down to the axle we went , 2 1/2 hours later we dug our way out .so read camps 7 more intensly now.
