As most of you are aware that earlier this year the Armidale council closed the free camping at Dumaresq dam near Armidale. In the Armidale paper that came out yesterday, since the camping was stopped, there has been vandalism, grog parties etc. so they (the council) are thinking of opening it up again for camping but I think no free camping as such - they are still thinking of which way they should go. It takes a while for some councils to see this but GREY NOMADS are good for the country.

Too bloody right, Nelly. If councils ever learned anything from their mistakes they'll all be geniuses. Hehe.

I went out there 2 weeks ago. It was disgusting. And the saddest thing for me was that last year when we camped there a lot, there were always lots of day trippers, families as well as the camper. And the place was always extremely neat and tidy. This time the rubbish, burnt outs in the dust and evidence of alcohol use was revolting. What a total waste of a beautiful public resource. Hopefully council can come up with a sensible plan.

It is a real shame that such a great location gets trashed by the morons.
I had a read of the article and it seems council may just lock it up and leave it for "Eco Tourism" whatever that is.
I have serious doubt that we will be allowed back there even for a fee.
