I heard from a nomad a year ago that in Coober Pedy Sa is a place for $10.00 a night for a van with power and hot showers? It isn't a caravan park, but i think he said its a large block behind a house where this is, any info from anyone?

Last week we stayed at Ribas caravan park - it's just before you reach Coober Pedy from the Woomera side. We had a powered site for $24 and bro-in-law had an unpowered site for $10 or $14...one or the other. The parks in town are busier and sites closer together plus at Ribas they have a underground mine on site and they have a night tour with a very informative talk by actual miners/gougers. Facilities are excellent and some of the sites have shade covers. Great spot. . Another plus is the camp kitchen which is in fly-proof room. A must have is a fly net!!!!.
INTERESTING TOWN.....VERY INTERESTING.

would recommend the tour - you actually get to go amongst the mine holes, out to the Breakaways, dog fence, church etc and very informative.

There is camping behind the OP Shop for $15/night with power $10 no power, there are a few water taps around the yard and the Showers were Cold only and one clean toilet.
We were there between the 19th to the 28th May, the yard is closed in with high steel fence so fairly safe for leaving vans with Caretaker on site most of the time.
Campers really need to collect grey water and either empty in sewer or up the back as the draining of grey water tends to run under the vans and being
a gravel/dirt yard can cause excessive smell and sticky mud. There is a 6" PVC header pipe which is used for a Dump Point and works fine.
We enjoyed our stay here meeting new travellers and finding a few small pieces of opal at the Noodling Grounds where a few Miners dump some of there
left overs in the car park every couple of days better than digging in the Mullock heaps behind the car park.
A very interesting town and surrounding countryside.
Cheers Kev.
