We hear of so many treatments - sorbalene cream or soap, cortisone cream or medications, coaltar products. None have helped my husband so far. I've heard about OLD MANS WEED, a potion made from a weed which grows along the Murray and which the Aboriginal people have used for skin complaints. Has anyone tried it? I've tried to source some without success. Can anyone help please?

Gooday Poodles' I have had Psoriasis for long time and other than methotraxate haven't had much luck, I have psoratic arthritis in my left knee which is fairly painful, the methotraxate controls this. I read somewhere that green vegetables help, so I try to eat at least one green vegie a day. I hope you find something that helps, there are a lot of helpful people on here that will help if they can, but sometimes some cures only work for some and not all. Cheers.

Hi Dave, I also have that in my left knee, however the methotrexate doesn't seem to help much, being treated with cortisone also at the moment. Psoriatic arthritis only affects about one in 10 or 20 people with Psoriasis irrespective of the severity of the psoriasis itself (more or less). I have tried most lotions and potions and once belonged to a psoriasis group who had tried all sorts of treatments even Deri Sal used on cows teats etc. As you say what works for one may not work for another. Sometimes when travelling and not wanting to apply recommended creams (from the skin specialist) I just apply sorbolene, won't cure it but gives some relief from the itch etc.
Good luck with that other cream Poodles, lets know what the Aussie equivalent in dollars is for a jar please, I see it is mooted as an Aboriginal treatment but has to be ordered from Japan, go figure! Surely there must be an Aussie supplier somewhere in the Health Shop industry?

Hi guys my wife and i have used flaxseed oil (tablespoon) and ghia seed (one and half tablespoon) mixed into a banana and other fruit smoothie with small amount of spinach thrown in, we find constant use every second morning at least, has a big effect on skin conditions. Worse case scenario it tastes nice and is healthy for you anyway.

I had suffered from itchy skin on my legs and some psoriasis on my neck up until about eighteen month ago, when I decided to have a fruit salad with yoghurt each morning for breakfast as I never seemed to get around to eating much fruit through the day. Within a few months all my rash symptoms disappeared and have never come back. My fruit salad always consists of paw paw, banana and apple with the addition of seasonal fruits like strawberries, mango and kiwifruit. Not sure if it is one particular fruit that is doing the trick but it tastes so good that Paul and I now look forward to breakfast each day. Like Westcoast says, it is healthy for you too!

I see flaxseed and linseed are the same thing.

It might be worth trying Moo Goo treatments. www.moogoo.com.au
This is an Australian company making great natural products for skin conditions. I use the Moo Goo Udder cream for seborrheic dermatitis which affects my face. After 30+ years of using damaging cortisone creams I now use only Moo Goo with great results. It is not a cure, but keeps the condition under control.
They make a wide range of products and I would recommend giving it a try. I have no connection with the company- just a happy customer.
