A few months ago a new member posted that their wrecked caravan had been looted while on the roadside after they were taken to hospital. I thought of her today as we passed a terrible van wreck with all the caravan contents/fittings strewn about like a heap of garbage. It has obviously been there for several months.
Does anybody know who is responsible for removing a wrecked caravan after an accident? the owners? Their insurance company? Police?

That's sad Gerty, to think someone's personal belongings have been lying there for months. I wonder why nobody from the owner's family came back to pack it all up.
I don't know who would be legally responsible but I suppose one the insurance company pays out the owners aren't interested any more.

I guess sometimes there is no family to follow up for some people..which is sad but true..

I believe once the insurers pay out for a total wreck, the salvage becomes their responsibility including the collection and disposal. If some items are not insured I would think they are the owners responsibility. Perhaps if still on the side of the road the owner may not have wanted or been able to retrieve them. Very sad ...

On the way to Port Macquarie the other day on the Pacific Hwy somewhere around Kew I saw a tug with a flattened roof and a damaged caravan mounted on a tow trailer. Lots of rescue people around wearing yellow vests. No sign of injury... perhaps the ambo had already been and gone. But it's something that happens all too often it seems. Can't figure it out... straight road, no wind, light traffic.

There's no wonder that so many crash on the hwy.
Only have to see the speed that some drive in a out of rest areas, they drive like it's a drag strip.
