I have now had (2) Dometic Fridge Air Vents disappear while travelling around .. the first I saw disappearing in the rear vision mirror .. turned around .. found it unbroken apart from the broken clips and refitted it with screws.
A couple days ago after arriving in Charters Towers I was surprised to find the other one missing too ..
My Caravan is just 6 months old and I have been told by the manufacturer and the dealer that I am unable to claim this under warranty ..
I ask that any response not include Caravan or Motorhome identification please ..
keep it specifically about the Dometic Fridge Air Vents ..
Have you had this happen to you ?
cheers
Jon

Yes, just caught it. Put a self taper/drill screw and problem solved.

thanks Larry ..
I did similar with the replacement .. used some of the existing screws and simply extended some of them through to the outer cover ..

Hi Jon, maybe you could put a couple of barrel bolts to push across the vent/s, just a thought.

I think what I've done will be fine .. but curious to see how many others have had this happen !
Had to trot down to Townsville this morning to pick up the new one .. all set up now ..

Any chance of a picture of the solution please.
I have a new pop top and on our first trip out I had the local C/P expert advise me to put a couple of screws into the fridge grills.
A photo might just convince me to drill holes into our new van

HI Jeff ..
Here you will see (2) photos of my vents .. top and bottom to suit a 2-door fridge .. also known as an L300 Dometic Fridge Vents ..
Your own setup however, may be quite different ..
In both pics, you will see where I have actually drilled through the outer cover in (6) places to allow the same screws (that hold the base in position) to clamp from the outside ..
One pic shows the old vent-cover that I was fortunate to recover after having seen something disappearing away in the rear vision mirror and one can see where the clips have disintegrated .. and the other being new,
I simply want to keep this one ..
Each cover was also placed over a fine layer of silicone sealant (as required) for waterproofing .. and I only chose to use (6) screws in each, but could have used all if I needed to ..
.. and it rained again last night .. good timing eh !
hope this helps Jeff ..

My vents are the same as that. I still have them but now I'm wondering for how long.
Thank you for some very useful information.

.. Just some additional info for you folks ..
As I had already been informed by my Caravan Manufacturer and Dealer that it was not a warranty issue, I went out yesterday and purchased a Vent which is shown in one of the pics ..
I received an email today indirectly from Dometic stating that they would happily provide me with a "one-off" replacement as a token of goodwill ..
I did let them know of my appreciation for the offer, but declined it due to the circumstances ..
This does show some consideration from an unexpected source .. happy with their attitude !

Hello jon
I have found that anything to do with an appliance the manf will tell you to contact the customer service of the appliance
i have had my outdoor speaker cover disappear, and my mudflaps fall off and my manf replaced both .
I have found if you contact the appliance manf, most will replace the item as you said token of goodwill, but they still have an obligation under warranty

its not too difficult Jeff .. would seriously suggest using some silicone sealant then you don't tend to overtighten the screws .. I didn't use silicone along the bottom at all ..
Fit it all without silicone, then its quite easy to remove and replace at anytime to drop some in there .. enjoy

Have an earlier one.. The top vent has just been replaced.. Good ole UV over 8 years .. Applied some UV resistant paint before installing..

If you feel that you need to seal the vent with silicon, use strips of closed cell foam sealing instead, this makes it easy if you need to remove in the future, these strips have adhesive on one side and remain in place when you remove the panel.
