I guess this is a bit like the "are you a scruncher or a folder" debate, but today I actually read the instructions for the porta loo, and it said
1. With the slide closed, press the bellows and add water to the bowl
2. After using the toilet, open the slide and depress the bellows to flush and clean the bowl
3. Close the slide.
i must say, this is not what we do.
so, sorry to ask, are you a slide in or a slide out person?

When we used a porta potty, started off with slide in according to the instructions. Discovered they seal, clean and flush better with the slide out.

I must be missing something with my porta potti. Can't see anything that slides. Just bellows and a foot pedal. Mind you, I'm yet to christen it.

I think they mean the slide latch between the top and bottom, meaning open to get the general business through.
I didn't bother with the bellows and flush. Keep a bottle of water in the bathroom and wash it in rather than using so much water the other way.
