I have a Garmin Nuvi 1450LMT GPS with lifetime maps.
I had used it a number of times and downloaded the Lifetime Maps updates previously, however recently I had decided to update them again, however the unit failed to upload them, and worse deleted all my maps and I could not reload them.
My 12 months warranty had expired, but I contacted Garmin Customer Service and explained what had happened, including the fact my unit was out of warranty.
Garmin got me to connect to my pc and they did an online check and said the unit had a software fault. They gave me a reference number and told me to post it back to them (free reply post number given) and they would replace it with a new unit.
I got the new replacement today (picked up from PO), so far all looks good and it is working well and maps replaced.
Thanks to Garmin for their consideration bearing in mind the unit was out of warranty.

You are 100% correct there dING but still much better looking than a feral wombat.
As to your question, I was in Local Government for 25 years but management level not a councillor so I don't think that counts, just counts for being crazy.
A Garmin might have come in handy navigating my way around the chamber at times though.
There, sort of back on topic.

I had a Garmin Dezl that played up and Garmin replaced it without a hassle.
I would recommend them to anyone looking for a GPS as they stand by their product and offer support.
Now back on topic I hope
Regards
Brian

That's good to know Brian, thanks, if you are going to get the support and others have too you are more likely to buy the product and have more confidence in it.

It's good to hear somebody has had good service from Garmin. Last year our 2 month old unit packed up in Townsville and it took 3 weeks of me ringing almost daily to get somebody to assist. Each time I rang, I got a different person and had to tell the story all over again, and each one told me I had to return it to the store I bought it from to have it sent to Garmin for repairs. I explained that was not possible as I bought it in Victoria and each one promised the supervisor would call me the next day which never happened. it was only after 3 weeks when I advised I was contacting consumer affairs, they did something about it. It was eventually replaced in Brisbane 2 months after it packed up, and that one packed up after 3months use.
Never again would I buy or recommend a Garmin.

I only rang them the first time Tamey to find out what I could do about the problem as it was out of warranty. The person I spoke to went to a supervisor and came back to the phone and said to send it direct to them for a replacement as they accepted a software problem even though it was out of the warranty period. They said they would send me a replacement once they had received the old unit and gave me a pre-paid stamp number to on the parcel for a return.
I was also told they would send me an email with a reference on it and to enclose that with the returned unit along with a copy of the receipt showing where I bought it from and when.
I did all that, but then got a couple of emails asking for proof of purchase/receipt before they could repair it. I replied the receipt was with the unit and said I was told it would be replaced, not repaired. After the last one I rang them again on their 1800 number and asked what was going on, they said to ignore the emails I had received and a replacement was being posted to me.
I then received a tracking number from Star Track and was able to follow the delivery points up to where it had been received at the PO Box I had it sent to. All received ok at the PO and collected by me there.
Sorry to hear about your experience with them Tamey, mine in the main was very good and worth the effort.
