Caravan park in Melbourne for late May/early June - suggestions?

For family reasons, we *may* be required to stay in Melbourne for a couple of weeks in late May/early June. We are already booked into the Big4 Coburg for the weekend we arrive on the Spirit, but at $46 a night, it's a bit exxy for a longer stay. I plan to email and ask if they can do it cheaper for a weekly stay.
Thanks for your advice

There is a park at sunshine which my sister has stayed at nd she finds it very central and not bad. It is secure too. Sunshine is not the social hub or Melbourne but it is central and close to great Asian food at Footscray, close to the city and so on. It depends where your family are. If they are on the north or east then it would be. Nightmare in traffic on the ring road. Let me know which side you. Eed to be and I'll see what I can come up with.

For what it's worth, we stayed at Chelsea Heights C/Pk in the eastern side of Port Phillip Bay when we travelled that way in 2011 - lovely park, caught a bus (out front) to train station and into Melbourne for the day. Will be looking to do same thing around March 2015.

Hi, Werribee south caravan park is a great little spot at $26 a night and they have a weekly rate as well. Not sure if this is out of the way for you,but we stay there often,it is best to book and try not to get a site next to the beach as it can be windy. Great park, clean amenities .

I could be wrong Pejay but I am sure I heard that place has closed. They had a big sale of all their gear and units. I stand corrected willingly though.

There is one on Frankston Dandenong Road, Dandenong. I think Big4.
There is also one in Pakenham that is reasonable.
Don't go to the CVP in Springvale.

Depending on which side of the city you wish to be I don't think you could go past the Showgrounds at Berwick. Excellent, spotless amenities, dump point, close to shops and facilities, close to highway and $20pn. Oh yeah, power and water. Ring the caretaker to book.

This is very handy. I have to go to Melbourne in late May and again in July and I prefer to drive, just in case I score a job to come home with.
Thanks everyone for your local knowledge. Keep it safe.

We've found the Big4 at Dandenong to be a great little park (Dandenong Frankston Rd at the twin bridges) The one further down the road at Carrum Downs was a once only for us.

Hi Rosie,
We do Melb every year to visit some really lovely kids in E. Malvern.
We stayed one trip at that Big 4 Coburg, they tried to stick us into a spot that you'd be struggling to get a Mini into, (car, not skirt, or maybe that too) we have stayed several times at Crystal Brook Doncaster, nice environment complete with possums, near the shops, and friendly managers, but a nightmare to get in and out of, too many trees in a very tight spot. Fender bender territory.
We checked out the caravan park at Wantirna, it looked OK, but whenever we tried to book they were full up, (meaning it is a popular park, so give it a try)
These days we leave the van out of town and stay in the Carnegie motel near our kids. Even as far out as Bendigo it is only about an hours drive down to the M80 and onto the M1 to Dandenong Rd, and there are other van storage places near the city, but if you intend staying in the van, give Wantirna a try.
As said, give Springvale Road a miss, a Top Tourist, when we stayed there it was full of permanents, not all bad for sure, some nice people, but the site we had was just about impossible to back into. (I also got booked for doing 57 in a 50 zone, b....Victorians.!)
Love Melb but can be a bit tricky if you're a Grey Nomad.

We are currently staying at Ashleigh Gardens on Ashley St, Braybrook.
Nice caravan park. Bus stop right at the gate into the markets and city. Safeway, chemist and bakery next door.
But very expensive at $296 week!! Fortunately we are working, but even so!!

Thanks guys!
Our Melbournian son is in Bundoora, we have stuff to drop off to him, so we chose Coburg initially. The reason we may need to stay a bit longer will still be here in Tassie, so we were looking for cheaper options, and you have given us heaps. Thanks so much, you are all the best!

Wantirna is only about 30 k from Bundoora, on the same side of town and usually outside congestion...........

It's a long shot, but try checking the house-sitting websites. You may fins a win/win opportunity.
