We are in our first week of working our way around Australia. Currently in Port Lincoln. Everyone keeps telling us there is plenty of work in WA. We're willing to do anything that will fund our travels. No other form of income I'm afraid. Looking for opinions of whether there is in-fact lots a work available.....where to head to find the work, and advise on how to pick work up. Both mid fifties, no trade but run own business back home in Victoria.

work is not as easy to come by as it was a year or two ago but with perseverance and the right can do attitude you will find some if you are in the right places at the right times. A couple of years ago a lot of the businesses in the mining areas were looking for staff as they could not offer the same money as the mines hence their staff went mining but with the layoffs in mining this has been remedied to some extent. We found by going into the smaller country towns and asking at op shops, the ladies in these are a mine of info, better than tourist info centres, and only to happy to talk, or the local pub we often were given promising leads. By he right place at the right time try wheatbelt at seeding or harvest if you have truck or tractor driving in your resume and with a little research you'll find other areas that will need people at other times. find a copy or google harvest trals or workabout australia. good luck and enjoy

We spent 18 mths in WA. looked for work during that time and time and again the same message: If you are from the east coast, it's not what you know but who you know.

I have heard that a few roadhouses on the Nullarbor and beyond often ask travellers if there after a bit of part time work.
I think mostly its a hubby wife team there after , she is in the kitchen cooking maybe hamburgers etc and he maybe pumping fuel?

The mining easy come jobs in WA are a thing of the past many workers with many years of mining work behind them
are being layed off . Mines that had two 12 hour shifts of 600 workers are know down to half that.
Having been working in the fields attached to mining until my retirement many mines are know training
local people in the small northern towns to do there work as they save million on plane charter and also stay in the local folks good books.
I still have many friends and family members working in mining and each day they are worried about there jobs.
