Hi, we are planning a trip from Melbourne to explore South Australia and the Flinders Rangers, but we are uncertain when the best time would be to do so, particularly visiting the Flinders Rangers. Any advice would be greatly appreciated as it is causing just a little angst around the dinner table!
Thanks and cheers,
Tamey

Hi Tamey, best time for flinders angers is September , October , if you are going to Rawnsley park it is best to book in.

I have been out there in July/August - days were warm - nights got a bit cold at times though but you cater for that in any case - beautiful part of this country of ours.

Any time between April and October for the Flinders.

We were there last year and it was something to behold. We went there in Sept as that's the best time for the wild flowers plus the weather is beginning to warm up a bit. We stayed at Rawnsley park and use it for a base for the majority of the time. Trust that helps in some way

Hi Tamey: - We stayed at Rawnsley Park as a base during August and struck great days but cool nights.
Most sites have a fire pit if your into camp fires & wood can be purchased from the store.
Cheapest to bring your own if you can.
Good clean amenities and a great camp kitchen
Very scenic part of the SA outback.
Cheers - John

We were in the Flinders in October 2011 and the weather was great. We stayed at Willow Springs and did the Skytrek 4WD. Good fun. Also stayed at Arkaroola, several National Parks, and a spot of free camping in Glass Gorge. I can also recommend the Stony Creek bush camp and caravan park in Wilmington, about 2 Km from the town.
cheers Gary
