When we bought our van we relied on the salesman to recommend size of solar panel. I now know we have a 100 A/H deep cycle battery and a 120 watt panel with a "regulator" of some sort.
Wondering how that compares to what you the forum members are using?
Hi Paul, I have a 100ah deep cycle AGM battery with a 140w solar panel, ATM, so far so good.
I am thinking when I go on the road full time to up grade to 2X 100ah batteries and add another 160w panel ( to make a total of 300w) So charging should not be a problem. My regulator is a CTEC D250s Dual. Cheers,

Is your 4.4 generater heavy to move around,I always like to make the 1st financial outlay the cheapest,
if I buy too small and have to upgrade then it works out expensive,if I do it right the 1st time it sames time and $$$$

What size is your genset Cyril?
I bought this one here in Ballarat and fired it up this morning and ran the Aircon without reving its head off.
Now need to sell the first one I bought on Ebay that was supposed to be 2 kva. Only produced 1600 watts!!!! $280 sitting in the garage. Would suit someone just needing to top up their batteries when cloudy for too long.
Can someone teach me to make links clickable please?
Aussie Paul.

Hold left mouse down and run your cursor over the URL, then hold Ctrl and press C to copy the URL. Before you post your quick reply, click on Advanced Editor. You will see your message there but also the tool for linking the URL. It's the chain icon amongst the other tools. Highlight the URL again with the left mouse down and using the cursor, click on the "chain". A small window pops up. Place your cursor in the Link URL box. Hold Ctrl and press V to paste the URL to the little window. Then click on Target and choose "new window". Then click on Insert.

Hi Cyril, the instructions for starting my new genset with remote are basically non existent. This morning I went to show off to the missus and I could not get it to start without going outside and use the primer bulb as there is not an exterior choke lever. The instructions say press the start button twice to start. I am not sure what the first press means, I assumed it activated a choke of some sort.
Any secrets I should know? Anyone else?

to start the generator cold 1turn on fuel 2. Open vent on fuel cap 3 pump bulb 10 times. 4 turn key to on position
start by whitchever means you choose
the first press on the remote turns the remote switch on second press to start
after using the remote and your finished using the generator make sure you turn the remote switch on the generator off if not the battery will go flat

Ok Cyril, thanks. I was hoping that I would wake up, grab the remote and start the gennie while still nice and warm in bed!!! and it would heat the coffee machine up!!! I don't lie my chances of my wife Eril going out in the cold to prime it for me!!!!
I played electronic organ at the Blue Bell in the evenings when it was 10 pm closing around late 1970s. Your old man kept me company Friday and Saturday evenings. You were in cars I think and had the whitish house with the large archways facing the road. Your old man bragged about your success..

Well, I guess I am a little disappointed that remote cold starting is not possible with my new generator..
Never mind, it works well and was not expensive. More important to me is to be able to remote turn it off when using the aircon into the night..
May be a challenge for me, or the smarter people on this forum, to work out something remote to prime it.

Hi Aussie Paul,
We have a pair of loose 80W panels and a pair of 130 AH, (old now say 80- 90) batteries. The panels are only just enough if conditions are good and I can get a good full sun position to put them out into. I can set them up at an angle to get the most output. If they were fixed flat on the roof it would not be enough.
So if we drive a bit we get by as the motor charges them. If we are sitting it's not enough if the sun is not fully out or the place is shadey. So I have bought a pair of 130 w panels to put on the roof and will see how that goes. Will keep the loose panels for poor sun times.
