Was out there couple of months back they have made a bit more of a designated van area bit away from the day trippers but there are still camp spots near the water. The pool itself is closed for swimming it is infected with menginist ****le bug I know thats not right but you know what I mean. Was out there couple of years back and there were 3 vans parked in a wagon wheel they had placed there genny at the end of there 30 metre cord and behind a public BBQ so they had no noise but the young family was having lunch coped it all and very dangerous with yound kids and 240 I was close to picking it up and taking it back and plonking it in the middle of there group but wasn,t allowed.

Hey JG, We were there a few weeks ago. Beautiful spot to camp, only two vans there, but over Easter, may be different. Very popular swimming hole for locals! The obviously don't worry about the issue with the water. The warning signs are there (same as the one at Popy) Close to Geraldton, so they all come down to camp, picnic and swim. Another good one is on the other side of Geraldton called Fig Tree Crossing (cache there as well)
Dump points at both Ellendale and Fig Tree Crossing.

Yes, I agree it's a very popular place on a long weekend that's for sure,
We stopped off there a few years back when heading North,
at that stage, there were a number of campers there,
some in large bus's and it looked like they had been there for a fare while,
going by all the junk around their camp site.
I believe the Shire have now cleaned up the place and moved these squatters on.
I noticed that the exact same warning was posted 12 months ago by the Geraldton shire,
maybe they have treated the water pollution by now and it's safe again,
Pity they don't advertise this fact if it is so.

Thanks for the reply everyone. I'll mention the Fig Tree Crossing one to the others I'm going with as well.
Might be another option if its full at Ellendale. Planning on being there early Thursday morning until Wednesday. A couple of the group were hoping to use kayaks on the water, maybe not a good idea with the water issue.
I'm hoping to do a few caches around Geraldton and have a bit of a look around, and visit the war memorial I missed last time.

How about Cliff Head North ??? Not too sure about Caches though....
Always a good spot, (except when the flies decide to camp there as well.) We were there last year again it was lovely. Only once did we strike it in the Fly season. We had to give it away then.
Couple of geocaches there.

Never a problem in the times we have camped there. Just the one time the flies were in abundance and in control, so we left.

Thanks Mike & Ellie,
I hate those sneaky March Flies too when they are around (some call them Marsh Flies but they all bite the same)

I'm back and had a great time. I'll put something in the Free/Budget Campsites on Ellendale soon.
Even used my oven and made Ginger Beer Scones.

Great stuff Cathy, look forward to your report, one of the many places I have not been to yet.
Hi All
Has anyone been to Ellendale Pool near Walkaway WA recently. Last time I was there was 2010.
Planning to head up there over Easter.
