Take care there are a lot of scammers out there, if they want to do a deal using Pay Pal and they will send an agent to pick up the van, tell them you only accept cash or bank cheque on pick up and you wont hear from them again.
Trading Post was a lot worse than Gumtree for scammers.
I have been successful selling a boat on Gumtree and also a friend has sold 2 vans in a fairly short period.

Thanks for the warning but have had an exprience with the same scammer recently trying to sell my inflatable dinghy, sold it privatelly but got bad vibes, working in the gas fields etc will send an agent etc etc.
It must work for them occassionally, victims generally the elderly i suppose.

List it on Ebay starting at 99 cents but with a reserve that is the minimum you will accept.
The audience will be huge. I had over 10,000 hits and 1500 watchers by the end of the 10 day auction with 4 people finally battling it out for supremacy. the van sold for over $5000 more than the reserve and more than I had paid for it 10 years earlier.
Don't reveal the reserve to anyone, and they will ask.
Be totally honest with your representation of the van and answer all questions as best you can.
Don't accept Paypal as a payment method as their fees are too high.
If it doesn't reach the reserve price, then no harm done, sell it some other way, but this is the largest audience you will get anywhere.

I think you must accept PayPal to advertise on eBay
Re Bank Cheque, I was advised that bank cheques can be stopped, so I asked at my bank and they said yes they can, but you do need a good reason to do it.
So do not accept bank cheque, cash only for any sale.

I have sold a number of items on Gumtree, including a camper trailer, two caravans and a campervan. I was happy with the result for all, but yes you do have to be careful of scammers but usually they stick out like sore thumbs, I have not been caught by any yet, although some have tried.
For most of the items I have only had one genuine reply and that was the buyer. I accept bank cheques if the buyer appears genuine, usually cash for smaller items, definitely no personal cheques.
If someone sees it and wants you to hold it for them, ask for a non refundable deposit and write that on the receipt. By waiting for them to make full payment you could miss out on other buyers, so a deposit should show they are genuine. I had one change their mind on a purchase after leaving a deposit saying it was just what they wanted etc, I had no problems keeping the deposit as I had to remove it from a paid ad listing as well as gumtree.
Now I do not remove my ad anywhere until the item has been fully paid for and collected. If I get any further enquiries while the sale is going through, I take the contact details of the other person interested in case things go pear shaped.

You have to accept Paypal to list the advertisement, but then, in the body of your text, you simply tell prospective buyers that you will not accept that form of payment.
works for me every time.

I believe Pay Pal is safe, but scammers use it to take you down.
It is done this way, you receive an email saying the purchaser has put the money plus additional amount to pay the agent to pick up the goods, you then receive an email supposedly from Pay Pal verifying that you now have xxxxx dollars in your Pay pal account.
You now receive an email asking you to transfer xxx dollars to the agents bank account
They are relying on you not knowing how to check if the money really is in your account
Of course if you send dollars to the agents bank account you will not see that money again or hear from the buyer again.
There never ever was any money deposited in your Pay Pal account
Most of these scammers are from overseas but make out they are interstate or working on an oil rig off the Australian coast.
There are variations on the above scam but in almost all cases they want to pay using Pay Pal and they cannot come personally to pick up the goods.
They must be scouring Gumtree etc constantly, as within 15 minutes of listing a large high priced item you start receiving emails or texts to your mobile

Sold our larger van and bought a rear door smaller one as you intend ...tried Gumtree and EBay with no luck..eventually put it on consignment with a local (south Australian) caravan dealer .....it was sold in 7 days for my asking price...we were most impressed with the service and it was a hassle free sale . Good luck whatever way you go .

We have a small rear door Jayco eagle poptop with rear annex and it is a great little van single beds and thy are long
its not for sale as yet ,but just let you know thy are good ,plenty of head room iam 6'4" and i stand up ok in it

Lots of people including me wont even look at items that don't have a price on them for fear of the item being out of their reach..

Upside down it still looks good, we have a beautiful van but
impractical from now on. Envious. Saw your post about the photo transfer, I too can't do very much myself, leave it to Pat.
