Shopping at Woolworths in Warrnambool this week. Went through the auto checkout and withdrew a $100 dollars left store and realised I'd left money in machine. Went back and money gone. Store said they would get back to me after checking video. A day later manager rang and said come in. They checked video and saw woman take money but chap using next machine blocked camera.
Manager said they couldn't give me $100 which I fully understood as it was my fault.
Almost fell over when she gave me a $100 gift voucher.
I know a lot of people bag them but as far as I am concerned I' be shopping with them.

Top marks to Woolies Terry, there are some scumbags around, even if you had left she could have handed it in to customer service.

The individual managers and staff at Woolies all over the country are usually nice people, and not responsible for their employer's business ethics.
Glad this worked out for you tcp99.

That was lovely of Woolies to do that. I hate that we are getting forced to use self serve. In Alexandra Victoria, I couldn't help but notice the number of staff working on the cash registers, it was more than Woolies have. And they were quick also.

To be fair I quite like both Wollies and Coles however they continue to have too many checkouts closed and try to force us into those self service lanes.
Once again last week at Coles a woman wandered over to me and offered to teach me how to use the self service. I told her hell would freeze over first and we got into
a long a loud debate about the darn things.
In the end I said I would if I got a 10% discount. That shut her up on the spot.
Why would anyone use them when they put staff out of a job, deny decent service and they don't pass on their savings to the customer.
Yet I see them used by sheeple who swallow the advertising, yeah the perfect dumb consumer.

got sick and tired of checkout people making mistakes, too many times have we had to go back and say I have been charged twice for an item, since using self checkout it NEVER happens, the checkout people are doing themselves out of a job for not doing it correctly.
Although I do agree with your 10% discount idea.

So, first post this thread from Terry, a positive story re Woolworths, full marks to the store manager, a great piece of PR, well done.
As usual, from about the 4th post on the tone begins to change, and' the thread begins to evolve into an I hate Woolies/Coles thread.
To them that have strong feelings against the big two, don't shop there, easy, there are alternatives.
If you have ethical reasons for not patronising them, fair enough, its your choice, it seems obvious to me that some who whinge the loudest still shop there.
If you don't like em, easy solution, vote with your feet.
