Apparently according to ABC24 News, a US Search Aircraft has arrived in the area and has definite pings of something large in the waters in the area located by the Australian Marine search satellite and ships should be in the area soon as well as Australian Orion aircraft.
Looks like a definite sighting of something, hopefully the aircraft wreckage to solve the speculation. It would be tremendous if it was and there were survivors to tell the story.
Sad for the relatives if it is but may give them some comfort knowing the outcome. Seel also;

Why are the Yanks here?
We are not searching for oil.
We have the best air force in the world.
Go back to your oil wars, we will handle the grown up stuff.

I think they were on a US base in north WA, I believe the search (and destroy) aircraft was the most advanced in the world they said on TV and cost $35 Million Dollars.
They have bedded down for the night at RAAF Base Pearce to start the search again tomorrow together with the RAAF aircraft.

AIUI, the US had already arrived at the search site while "the best air force in the world" was still getting ready to take off.
Moreover, the US Boeing P-8 Poseidon was introduced in 2013 whereas the RAAF's Lockheed AP-3C Orion is an upgrade to 1960s technology. These upgrades were completed between 1997 and 2005.
