For some stupid unknown reason our RTA in NSW has decided to do away
with the rego stickers, so this year I had only noticed on friday that I had
been driving around with an unregistered car!!!
I had all the paper work ready ie green slip to be paid and such, sitting in my filling thingy...
so had no idea it was like this...
So if your in nsw just keep an eye on your documents when your next due for rego!!

Why blame the RTA - if you can't keep a proper filing system, diary etc it's your fault

Several States have adopted this Policy inc. Tasmania. I keep a photocopy of the Rego notice and print a receipt for online payment and carry that also. I can therefore produce the Rego Notice and payment receipt if requested. It's not really necessary now as all the you beaut Police vehicles throughout Australia have laptops and software to check registration in every State.

We haven't had rego stickers for awhile in WA Milo, but the transport department still send out a rego paper for the next rego date plus the fee etc, so you need to either pay it (can do online) prior to the due date or by the due date. We don't have green slips over here so no vehicle examination needed before renewing rego.

Yea Milo many states are going this way. Tassie went that way 12 months age and I think Vic has gone in that direction as well so I think all the states will go the same way. Big problem have to find a way of reminder so we don't get caught. It is not just cars but vans as well. Just another thing to keep on the mental log.

Why not just put a small sticker in the top right hand corner of you screen with the month of renewal.

SA has also gone this way and you'll be hit with a $1500 fine if you forget to renew and are caught. The local transport department do send out reminders but their system does forget some people. They also offer a monthly direct debit so you don't have to worry about the annual renewal - just remember to keep your nominated account liquid. I use MS Outlooks's calender to remind me 2 weeks before the rego on the van and the ute is due. Google and others also offer a similar service.

That's fine BG, -- IF ??? the computors where kept up to date and had correct information ?? There was a case in Victoria last year, where the police had a blitz in the eastern suburbs, They pulled over a number of vehicles, that were ''UN-REGISTERED, and some of them were registered, but the computor said different..
Police removed the number plates, gave them the fine, and then they had to have the vehicle towed home. This happened on a friday afternoon, and it was the Monday before the innocent parties, could Prove that the Rego HAD BEEN PAID, and the computor was Not up to date..
Last I heard about it was the Fines had been withdrawn, and they were fighting over cost re- imbursments ..

My understanding is they still send you out a renewal which you pay by the due date, there is no sticker with it to put on your window.
Sorry it got fouled up for you milo, also sorry Texas spoke to you the way they did. Ignore them, you've got enough on your plate at the moment so don't take their comments to heart.

Hmmm.......just made a post about rego reminder stickers you can buy online for a few bucks, I put the link but it has to be approved by admin before the post can appear.
If you google Rego Reminder Stickers it will bring the link up for you.
I had one of these on another vehicle but have to buy another....

Simple Mate pick up the phone and call D.O.T. (Dept. Of Transport) and ask them, give them the relevant details such as Name, Address, Rego Number of the vehicle and they will tell you how much you owe, And how much it is for 6 or 12 Months.

I fail to understand how people "forget" to pay rego fees just because stickers are no longer sent out.
Electric companys, gas companys insurance co's for just a few don't have 'stickers', you pay the amount shown on your renewal / payment slip, simple really.
If you really worry, get a sticky note & stick it to your window with the due date on it.
I personally never used to look at the sticker, in many cases it stayed in the glove box until the next one came. Naughty I know but that's how it was.

I don't know why you're all jumping on Texas for making a very valid statement.
IT IS up to you to keep your bills and their payment dates in order.
You receive a renewal notice, if you fail to act on that in a timely fashion, then IT IS your fault, no-one else is to blame but you.
The lack of a windscreen sticker should make no difference.
When was the last time you failed to pay your land rates, water rates, electricity bill, telephone bill, gas bill, etc. etc. just because they didn't give you a windscreen sticker to remind you?
What makes the car registration renewal any different?
If remembering is so difficult for you, then opt for monthly payments with automatic withdrawals.

Enter your billing code, or whatever else they require, and it's all there for you.

I agree Texas . SA did away with labels in 2011 and there was the same bleating here , "how do we remember when our rego is due " etc etc etc . I always write the next renewal date on the calender each time i renew . We also get renewal papers at least a month before it is due .

Hey Milo mate, take no notice of the negative coments, I for one can admit to the fact that there's too many things to remember these days, my main gripe is PIN numbers, I just can't remember them all, just take some of the great advice from the nice people on this forum, and next year you will remember.

milo I think RMS still sends out rego papers - you just don't have a bit to stick to the window. They have a big reminder to pensioners that they still have to register their vehicles even though they don't have to pay.
Hope you get it done OK.

So long as you are registered online in NSW the now RMS are a paaaaiiiinn in the neck with their reminders that your rego is due.
I got 2 notices that it was due
I got one notice that they had received the pink slip notification but hadn't received the CPT renewal
I got a second notice that I had had the pink slip inspection done but still hadn't renewed my CPT
5 mins after I paid the CTP they reminded me I now had everything in place and all I now had to do was to pay the rego..
Which I did on the due date....
