We plan on heading off in May to travel, work and house sit for 12-24 months.
Do I need a superannuation account for employers to pay into if I pick up work while travelling?
Cheers

Talk to your accountant about getting your own ABN number, easy to do online. A lot of employers looking for casual workers prefer those with their own abn. Saves them super, workers comp etc, which allows them to pay a higher casual rate. Benefit to you, possible claim work clothing, tools of trade etc. Again talk to you accountant.

We work, and house sit, as we travel. We have a super account for employers to pay into, and also have an ABN for those that don't want to put you on the books, then we pay our own tax and super.

I guess it is them that have the work and it is their money they are paying you with so it only follows that they dictate the terms..

Working as a contractor using an ABN has significant tax benefits for the worker.
You can claim the cost of running your vehicle to and from work, safety gear, part of your internet and computer costs, mobile phone etc etc.
A real win for the worker.

Thank you all for your help - have now got a super account and will get an ABN on line if required. Great Forum.
