Would someone tell me what the road from Bega across to the Monaro Hwy is like please. I know what the Monaro is like and have travelled it before.
I am thinking of going that way up to Penrith NSW as it one hour shorter than up the coast.

I went up there ,last .week to go fishing at Eucambene. While steep at first, the road is great once you get up Browns mountain, and the country is great , if very dry. The road is very good once you getup Browns mountain. The only problem is I didn,t catch any trout.

Bob....Scoop is in the up position at the moment cos wombat is a mate this week
Brandt...You should be looking after that problem of yours and not wasting time on the forum mate, thanks for the info though.
Bill...Thanks mate.
I have decided to actually go up Hwy1 to Wollongong then across to the Hume. I like that drive. I will be travelling with someone else in convoy so better think of them as well

I would do Browns Mt , then you have All the climbing out of the way .
Mt Ousley is as bad as others , except on Ousley you have a Heap of trucks .
You have a lot more 'bigger hills' on th coast & more towns than Monaro.

That's interesting Zoomtopz, I have done Mt Ousley a couple of times and find it OK and you say there are 'bigger hills' on Hwy1, very interesting, thankyou.
I will speak to the fellow travellers when the time arrives for THAT final decision.

Hey Dougwe, been going over Browns Mt pulling fuel tankers.....you'll be right with your rig, but I advise going if it has been raining....road can get quite slippery.
Just keep constant speed and revs....its one hill you do slowly...
Take care mate

Used to live in Eden and went to school at Bega. Family came to Sydney once a year and bused over Browns Mt. to Cooma train. The Mt. was ruled by timber jinkas and many a time the bus had to back up to a passing slot cut into the side of the mountain to allow a jinka past. Downward traffic had right-of-way. Was fun but hairy for a 12 yr. old.

Go for it Doug! Brown Mtn is a tiny bit less steep/nasty than the Clyde, and much wider than in Ontos's day.... There is a nice lookout called Pipers Lookout halfway up which gives you some time for the engine to cool, but honestly you should be fine.
