Some advice please. The pros and cons of battery packs +solar versus generator. Van has its own solar, so portable panels for the battery pack.

I have both but since getting portable solar power have never had need to use Gene, she just sits in the back of the tug out the way.
I keep the battery in the Avan charged when driving and solar when stationary for mor than one night. Works for me anyway.
Edit....Just make sure you have good quality wiring in both Van and Tug.

You can't use generators in a lot of places............. you can use solar anyplace (excluding cloudy days). Also with solar you don't have to carry a can of petrol.

Solar for us...
We have 3 x 110ah batteries.
These are all charged via the alternator while we're on the move.
2 in the van wired via Anderson plugs and a DC/DC charger
1 in the back of the Nissan to drive the Waeco, via it's own DC/DC charger.
Bring the 2 x 120W solar panels out when we reach sunny paradise...
The panels can connect to either the van batts via their MPPT controller, or to the aux batt in the Nissan.

Ok here goes..
- No I'm not going to go into details..
A Good set of Batteries.. [NOT the normal type]
- The right number of solar Panels to charge them up..
- the Right gear to control them..
and you should be able to have everything that you want to have..
A Good system will provide all you need Plus more..
