IS BIGPOND RIPPING ME OFF?????? HELP NEEDED PLEASE

Hi All
I've been a Bigpond customer for eons (is that how you speeel it) and have just seen my WIRLESS $49 per month 4gb of data plan on line at Telstra/Bigpond website for $35.
Now I want to make sure this is correct before I do my nana and say something I may regret,, but if correct I'm mighty angry.
I have the option of changing plans with Bigpond but not this $35 deal.
Anyone on a Bigpond or for that matter Telstra Wireless data plan for $35 per month for 4gb.
Any info appreciated, but please don't tell me to change ISP as we use it in the bush with external antenna and modems with provision for external antenna as good as the old blue Maxon BP3 seem to be like hens teeth.

The Plan is: Bigpond Mobile Broadband Super Fast Liberty 4Gb
The total cost of the plan is $49.95
But we get rebated/credited on our bill:
Bigpond Mobile Broadband Multiple Product Holding Benefit credit $10.00
Bigpond Mobile Broadband Member Benefit credit $10.00
Total charges per month = $29.95
We don't get cut-off if we reach the 4Gb limit - the service just slows.
The rebates/credits come about because we have our homeline and mobiles and broadband all on the one monthly account.

Hi Baz, we have Telstra wireless broadband (next G) 8GB for $59.95 minus the $20 rebate for land line and mobiles = $39.95 a month.Hope this helps cheers Peter.

I have 3GB WiFi for on the road at $24.50 month. At home, ADSL 50GB for $49.95 plus home telephone. All Telstra. What happens is when a new Plan comes out, existing customers are not told, you are left on your old Plan until it expires. Usual Plan time is 2 years. If you don't realize the 2 year Plan has expired, Telstra say nothing to you but just let you run on. When you do find a better and cheaper Plan, Telstra want you to sign up for 2 years, so you are locked in again. I read recently an article in a Newspaper, that if you tell your Telco you are going to change to another provider, Optus or Vodafone, coz they have a good deal, Telstra will pull out the plug and offer you under the counter deals they wouldn't normally offer. Might be worth a try...

We have Telstra 4g, but have 8gb but costs us $50 month even though we have two mobiles with them, trouble is Telstra has got monopoly when it comes to isolated areas

It cost us an extra $10 to go from 4gb to 8gb but the next one up is 15gb at $99 month go figure

Telstra and BigPond are different brands with different mobile broadband offerings. When you put the plans side by side you see that the Telstra plans are cheaper than the BigPond ones for the same amount of data, but if you look into the terms and conditions you'll see why.
Not all the differences may be consequential to you, but the big one is that if you exceed your monthly limit on BigPond you get shaped (speed reduced), and there are no additional charges. If you exceed it on Telstra the data keeps coming at full speed but you get billed for the excess at a very high rate, 10c/Mb I think it is.
From memory I think BigPond also allows you to switch to any other plan once per month, whereas Telstra won't allow you to switch to a lower plan than the one you originally signed up for.

Don't have home line anymore as it wasn't worth it.
Previous attempt at single bill failed abysmally,,, too long to explain,, all to do with business/private phone at the time and their new database which threw my off first, got her back on then threw me off,, ah the joys of technology.

HI all who are interested, solved the query today with Telstra.
As some have said previously it's a bundling issue (no landline or ADSL connection no bundling) so we can't have cheaper rate per se. Telstra deal is $35 per month 4gb data and 10c mb if you exceed the data, ie same speed just charged the flat extra rate, whilst Bigpond $49.95 per month for 4gb is slowed to dial up speed if you exceed the data.
However, they now have options: WiFi that connects to EXTERNAL antennae plus 4g modem that docks in WiFi for base rate of $35 per month, plus $6 per month for 4gb, ie $41 per month. Option 2 is $56 per month 8gb data.
I need to buy the adaptor for wifi $99.
So in summary I can get wireless connection to external antenna ($99) and double the data I get now for an extra $6 per month.
Telstra lady at Marion SA VERY HELPFULL AS WAS THE TECH GUY in relation to antenna connection.
Thanks again all, with some knowledge from you I have options i COULDN'T FIND ON LINE.
PLUS I showed them some of their phones for use with external antenna that were NOT on their website.

I shared your dilemma when I cancelled my Landline and was told that I could not get my internet "bundled" with my mobile. So I politely told them that if they would not give me the discount I would switch from Bigpond to Telstra (now supposedly in competition). When he realised I was out of contract and free to change he "consulted with his manager" and gave me the discount in return for signing up for a further 2 years. That basically gives me the 4gig for $20 per month (which is almost competitive with city providers)
If I didn't get what I wanted I would have changed from Bigpond to Telstra, but the serious drawback on that is that if you go over your allowance the Telstra plan will continue to provide normal speed access and then send you the (hefty) bill, whereas Bigpond will slow you down to where internet browsing is well nigh impossible, but you can still get your emails for no extra cost. And I DO get a single bill for mobile and internet, tho it's an electronic bill only.
The whole thing is a minefield, but unfortunately Telstra is the only one with reasonable coverage, in my case even my home is not covered by any other provider

.. and the same here. Have used this now for some 3 years and found it best suited my needs .. It can be added to at any time and a new 12 month period is automatically re-set.

We have 8gb for $50 month and slows done if we go over that no disconnection, it's Telstra wifi there are a lot of differences In plans, we have two mobiles but no discount

Today I decided to do something about changing my plans.
My phone is $60 a month with 1 Gg internet. I was paying another $30 for an extra $3 Gg, making 4Gg for $90.
Most of the time my hotspot would not connect my laptop to the internet so was having to use my phone all the time.
Well today I had enough. I went into Kingaroy Telstra and dropped off the extra 3Gg leaving a straight plan for $60.
Then asked what could they do for me, the cheapest plan for a wireless dongle.
Ended up having to go with 4 Gg for $45 a month as the only one cheaper than that was a 1Gg at a cheaper amount but wasn't enough for me.
The whole lot ended up costing me more a month than I wanted but no other way to get it cheaper without bundling which you need a home phone for.

This is my opinion on one of the best deals but it may not suit everyone as it only has 2gb of internet included.
Boost Mobile has $40 per month which includes :
Unlimited calls and texts to any phone in AustraliaMobile or Home phone
2 Gb of Internetwhich can be used on your mobile phone or tether your mobile ( use as a modem ) to connect your laptop, tablet or computer via WiFi to the internet.
Boost uses the full Telstra coverage for mobile phones ( 100%the same coverage as full paying Telstra customers ).
The main difference is the speed of the internet, Boost only gives you 3G speed, whilst Telstra can give you 4G speed. At the moment most towns in Australia ( except the Capital Cities ) can only get 3G speed anyway but as NBN rolls out the 4G speed will bespread out across the country ( If you believe what they say <G> ).
I have been connected to Boost for abouta year and have no complaints at all.
You can take your present mobile number with you to Boost.

Currently Telstra/Big pond $55.00 pm for 5gb.
I have never previously gone over the 5 but somehow this month in 2 days I blew over.
Currently 6.43gb and slowed. I suspect 2 of my grandkids could be involved.
I am to receive an answer as to what the gigs were used on.
They also reinstated the speed.
New gigs start 10th march.
Not happy as original plan was 12 gigs for $60.00 pm.

I have Telstra prepaid mobile & internet [ separate ] ,works out to max. $50 mth.. Have been doin that for bout 4 yrs. works for me .. I wont have a landline OR any sort o contract, prepain all the way...........

Yes Baz421. I've just been through the same process. It definitely looks cheaper because they advertise a bundled price instead of the 'standalone' price. You may find that you are actually on a good deal which is no longer available. From what I've checked out, standalone (broadband only) prices are not getting cheaper, just getting dearer to give you more GB.

We have been using Boost now for around 18mths and couldn't be happier.
I have been telling the members of this forum about Boost for some time now but they dont seem to be interested.
You forgot to add that Boost is a fully owned subsidiary of Telstra hence to use of 100% of the Telstra network.

One phone of ours costs $30 per month, gives us 4gig, calls and texts are free. Unless you are going way out back, optus provides just as good a service coverage and in some places better. Our other phones cost 12c a minute for calls and 12c sms. Our 3 phones together and internet work out at $35 a month, can't get much cheaper than that and what band width we don't use, carries over to the next month.
