I remember the days when Woolworths was a variety store, back in the '50s and '60s. Not sure about Coles though. It was a bit like Sams Warehouse is now.

Garry, Coles was the same and had a big store in Melbourne that had it's own big Cafeteria, I remember it was a must on mums list when she took us to the big smoke for the day. There was also one in Dandenong for many many years as well.
When coles decided to go into the supermarket business they were called "New World".
Gee I feel old now.

I remember when Kmarts had cafes inside. It was great. Halfway through shopping could stop for a break, leave the trolley outside the door and have a coffee and nice piece of Pav.
I swear I used to spend a lot more in Kmart back in those days. Hardly go near them now.
