Frontline Conversions (Brookdale NSW, but branch in Brisbane) sell some used campervans, some are a bit expensive but do have the occasional cheaper one, scroll down past the new ones to used, see;

We bought our girl on eBay...... looked at a lot from Gumtree. Just don't pay more than you can afford to lose ($100 in our case) to ANYONE up front.
We lost one deposit, as Troy got sick, and we had to bail on the seller, who had someone else waiting on our decision. He offered a refund, but we declined, he'd given up a day for us, and we'd let him down (it was a workday).
The one we bought, we paid $100 down, had a few more conversations, and then paid another $1000, because we couldn't get on a plane for another 2 weeks, and the guy had others wanting her. It was a risk, but one we felt was worth taking - we'd been debating her for 6 weeks, so.........

Unless you buy yours off someone like Vic who is honest and upfront and has sold two caravans, two campervans and two camper trailers on Gumtree over the years. But like Wombat says, not all sellers are honest some even doctor the pictures so they don't show rust etc, so Caveat Emptor (Buyer Beware)......

(One of the people who bought my van off Gumtree told me that they had gone to see a van on Gumtree that was advertised for sale at Freo, the photo on Gumtree looked fantastic, but when they actually went to view it the rust was so bad it would have shown up in the photo, so I don't know what the sellers were trying to achieve, attendance to view their van maybe, then reduce the price because of the rust????)

The reality is, people lie. We went to FNQ to look at a bus in 2011, had been talking to the guy for 6 months, asked all the questions several times, got truckloads of photos, got copies of RWC etc.
Got there, and **** was dodgy. Door didn't shut properly, fuses looked dodgy (pics showed them fine). The whole thing felt bad - but we didn't know til we got there.

I take it you did not buy, seems a long time for it to be on sale, if it was good then it should have sold before 6 months

No, we made it into a holiday. The guy had it up, Troy contacted him, and terms were agreed, but due to family circumstances, we had to wait to get up there. So it was a long talking process, asking the same questions in different ways over and over.
Funny thing was, I knew as soon as he pulled up to collect us from the train station that all was not right. It was 11p.m., stinkingly humid, we'd been on the damn train for 8 hours, and yet, my instincts screamed that this was not ok. It got worse through the hour ride back to the house, and the next morning, it was confirmed. God but I was p****d off!

Take your time and compare, compare, compare and compare some more, my wife and I spent about eight months searching for the right one and eventually we have the right one sitting on the driveway.
Found ours advertised by Roberts RV in Melbourne. They are Winnebago/Avida agents and have some used campers that have been traded in. Was good because we got a 2 year mechanical warranty (on a '96 bus!), and a full service before we picked it up. I presume the dealers in other cities would be the same.

No they don't Wendy. I got a 3 month mechanical warranty. Had to do my own 90,000 ks service only 2,000 ks after buying it. Wasn't even given a complete car detailing, which I paid for Myrtle to het detailed when I sold her.
This was an RV place in Melbourne.

Yes Gunsondecks I will not be rushing and will be doing a lot of comparing between the different sites as well as getting of my bum and going around the different caravan sales yards but last time I found them quite expensive compared to the for sale sites online?

Jen, the only advice I can really offer is don't rush. We took more than 2 years to find our girl. We allowed 1 year to get our house emptied, and to find something. In the end, it took 2, we lived in a caravan for 6 months before we found her. There is no such thing as an easy/cheap fix, so if there's something wrong with it that the seller owns up to, walk away, and don't look back!
What are some of the better sites that are selling campervans I cant afford a new one so will be looking at used?
I am mainly interested in campervans not caravans not that it really matters ;)
