Gday...
Understand your concern. However, there are very few towns with a population above 10,000 around this country that don't have trouble with kids on drugs and bikies and other undesirables.
Welcome to the 21st Century.
cheers - John

No town is without these problems where ever you go.
Just be safe and thorough in choosing your camps.

we have just left Mildura after living there for almost 2 years and never encountered any problems at all. We did not go roaming streets at night or frequent nightclubs etc either but never had any reason to suspect Mildura was any less safe than anywhere else. It is a beautiful part of Australia so do yourself a favour and stay a few days.

Loved Mildura! Were there about 3 weeks ago. Stayed at nice free camping spot called Psych Bend Pump... Or something like that! :). Lovely spot overlooking the Murray!
If you are going to worry about your safety in towns in Oz you might as well stay home and lock your doors and windows!
Take the usual precautions and you will be fine!

You should be fine in Mildura. We've never had any problems in all the years we've been going there.
If you feel unsure then camp where there are other people around. Safety in numbers eh.
Cheers.

We will most likely be in Mildura tomorra 11/2/2014 and we will be there for a few days, we stay at aprivate donation parking spot that has toilets and water and rubbish bins, it is very close to the city but you would need wheels to get around as Mildura is a BIG place..
Ohhh and if you leave any rubbish around you will never be allowed back..
Ring me for more info my phone number is on the website below vvvvvvvv...

I've stayed at Bottle Bend on the banks of the Murray just near Mildura several times and never had any problems. Beautiful spot with plenty of space and shade if desired.
I rarely stay right in larger towns as I think they all have some undesirable elements that would make me feel less than completely secure, but I think it's reasonably safe once you're out of town in the bush.
Nowhere is 100% safe including home, but if you worry about that you'll never go anywhere.

Thanks all who replied, we have been travelling for eight years now , with lots of free stays including mildura.
A recent current affairs show didnt do the town any favours, so we are staying in renmark top tourist tonight instead.
thanks again vic

When you stay in a town do you usually hit the night clubs til the early am ,wander around town from one club to another ?
No then you are quite safe in Mildura. As safe as anywhere in Oz.We locals get a bit cranky about media misrepresentation of our town it's no worse than Renmark or any other big country town
