As the voice of experience, I don't think a get together needs to be too 'organised' as such. It can get very problematic with everyone putting their two bobs worth in and things changing to suit this one or that one.
Just choose a place and time and announce it in 'Get togethers'. Then whoever's interested or in the are at that time will come.

Same as trying to organise catch up dinners with about 6 - 8 friends. Now if it is me organising I make a date about 2 weeks ahead and that's it who can comes if not there's always next time, used to give me grief trying to accommodate everyone.
