Take it all with a grain of salt !!!! First it is the ABC, Well known for creating big stories by going on Hearsay, ! and not including any Facts, ! that may lay question to the stories Legitimacy.
[ But then again ?? all the stations do that ?? -- Never let the truth spoil a story ?? ]
Secondly, Information from FORMER EMPLOYEES ?? [ disgruntled ?? who knows ?? ]
Thirdly, The Business I work in is the supply and repair of all tanker and trailer parts and equipment, for the Petroleum and Chemical Industry, I have been supplying goods to Cootes Transport for over 10 years, This industry is very ''cutthroat'' competitive, ?? with everyone trying to save a dollar, This said, Cootes are well known in the industry for NOT PENNY PINCHING, they drive a hard bargain with suppliers, however I have NEVER known them to knock back parts required, due to budget restraints, ??
I am NOT saying they don't cut corners here and there ?? [ as I don't know ] However what I do know ? is that whatever troubles they find with the Cootes Trailers, then look out for all the troubles they will find if they Audit the rest of the Petro/chemical Transport companies, in Vic, As in my Experience Cootes would be in the top 4 of all the transport groups as far as Vehicle Maintenance is concerned, I could name a few companies, that would make you ''shudder;;
I will watch the show tonight, just to see how it is presented,, ??

I can't even be bothered listening to/watching the ABC anymore...
I want to hear facts not hearsay and that is all they ever broadcast..
And I come from a family who thought the old ABC only ever reported FACTS...

Its really hard to get a news program that you can actually trust these days. ABC radio is still the best, no matter what the Murdoch and Packer press says.

ABC radio and TV for me. I think they do a great job - and I worked in commercial radio and telly for years (for what it's worth).

I agree Gerty, ?? the problem is when people do not know the facts, ?? the masses Will believe whatever they hear ?? as that is the only information that is available to them, ??
In all my years of trucking and driving, it's mostly been privateers and small trucking businesses who have the safest procedures, best working conditions, well maintained vehicles and rolling stock. The majority of big company trucks you come across have at least one or two safety faults, as it's all about profit margins for them. Whilst with most small operators, it's more about lifestyle. Company trucks can have any number of drivers in them every day, so there is no personal attachment to them and neglect is established. Not so with privateers and small business, drivers normally have their own truck and treat it like gold, know every noise and the condition of the entire rig. So maintenance and safety is a priority for them.

That sounds perfectly logical to me N.P. if it is a truck you drive every day you'd want it to be perfect to the point of being a pain in the You know what. But if it's a vehicle that every T, D &H drives, then you probably wouldn't give a stuff. And why bother even reporting issues if you won't be driving it again for a week or two.

A very sobering programme, and frightening, especially for WA drivers. Apparently truckies here can legally drive up to 17 hours at a stretch (it's a bit less in other States, but they want to adopt the WA standard).
Now, I DO NOT want to be on the road with anyone who's been driving ANYTHING, never mind a big truck, for 17 hours.
Not to mention the drug use, confirmed by footage of police testing. The reaction of drivers being warned of drug-test stops was sickening.
I think it's repeated Tuesday night. Well worth a look.
