Well, how time flies when  you are having fun.

I have now been in the beautiful state of Tasmania for 1 week but only feels like yesterday I was travelling the high seas.

 

I arrived here around 6.00pm last Sunday and it took 50 minutes to get off the good ship "Spirit" and through the check point, once through it only took 10 minutes to get to my Brother and sister in-laws house where I will call base for my time here.

 

The trip over took 9.5hrs and felt a long time but wasn't really, I spent some of the time with friends, Copper 1&2, Garry and Roxanne and Garry's mum and dad, so that makes them temporary C4&5 (poor little C3 is home) who are travelling in convoy with them that were on the same boat and we all did our own thing at times as well. My time was spent chatting, walking around, sitting around taking  in all the various things around me and out at sea, outside in the sun looking out at sea and even listened to a talk about the Tassie Tiger and Devil in the Audio Visual room. We also had breakfast and lunch on board. I have heard lots of people complain about the quality and price of food on board the "Spririt" but really as a solo I found it not that bad really but do understand if there is more than one you are paying for,  it would get costly. We had a very smooth crossing with sun and very little wind, in fact I got a little red when out on the poop deck.

 

I have spent the week sight seeing and having relaxation time as well, you can't over do things in this grey nomad lifestyle. Work one day rest the next, sorry, work is a dirty word.

 

I played tourist in Penguin and Burnie early in the week where I caught up with Garry, Roxanne and Garry's mum and dad again.  We all ended up at the Hellyers Road Distillery in Burnie and enjoyed a lovely informative and educational tour with a couple of samplings. I also lashed out and purchased a drop of the good stuff (Whisky) well quite a few drops really.

 

Later in the week I took myself off too Richmond, near Hobart, Via Campbell Town where I stopped to check out a bridge that was built by convicts back in the the early 1800's, just standing looking at it you just can't help but feeling like you have gone back in time, it must have been very hard work in very difficult times for sure and all because that young bloke over there struggling to lift a large block of sandstone stole a loaf of bread way back in England somewhere. 

 

Next port of call was Oatlands where I also felt I had gone back in time as this was truly a lovely town indeed, heritage buildings and a working stone ground flour mill with a magnificent windmill, just magnificent and I tell you that for free, then finally my destination, Richmond, where I wasn't disappointed. Another larger historic convict built bridge, a Historical Model Village built to scale 1:16, small, "Old Hobart Town" of what Hobart looked like way back in the early 1800's and even before "Port Arthur" was built, mmmm, was there anything built before Port Arthur?? I didn't go to PA, even though I just love the place to death of which there were many there in it's day as I have had the great privilege of visiting there before and I might say very emotional visit too. This trip I am trying not to double up on places been on 2 previous trips to Tassie.

 

The time had come to head back to Devonport so decided to go Via the Great Western Tiers and Great Lake, just truly spectacular scenery all round. I really enjoyed that day and checked out everything on my list for the day with a few bonuses thrown in. Did I say it was spectacular?  Well it was,   'shut the front gate!!'   spectacular. 

 

I have also met new GN's during the week and arrangements are in place to meet more during the upcoming week and I am looking forward to whatever else I do. No real plans and why should there be, just take each day as it comes.

 

Gee it's a hard life out in the playground.

 Gidday Dougie Boy, Excellent report mate, and the photo's really show the story, I will give you ''ONE''compliment this week, and that is you have a great ability, in Photography ?? all you photo's seem to have that,  " something special " Oh and please enjoy Tassie for yourself this time, ?? no need to do it for me  July is not far away, then I am FREE !! to do my own travelling,  when you get back, don't forget we still have to find some time in your busy life, for the ''Renata Roast ''

Mate, you are a nice bloke, ? regardless of what wombat says  -- However the person who made that saying famous, I have met twice, and IMHO he is Up Himself ?? And if he was on this forum, ??? I would put him in the top 1% of the 2% ers

Great report and photos Doug. They bring back good memories, I think it would be about 26 years since being there last. I hope to be back there again soon. Enjoy the rest of your time there mate it's a beaut place.

Dougwe, I was speaking to Wombat, and he says that he uses a -- Condom -- just as well as you can use your -- Camera 

I asked ? what makes you think that ??? He replied,         '' well a Camera or a Condom, can both Capture, '' That Magic Moment.
