What does your handbook indicate? What is on your tow bar compliance plate? Most importantly what year model is it? (The first one on the list I am looking at says "MK 4WD 2.8L diesel incl GLX-R 10/96 - 03/206 - 1900 kg)

Who in their right mind would tow 3000 kg behind ANY vehicle less than a truck??
Manufacturers say you can in certain vehicles but my mind says you need a vehicle of greater weight than the towed mass
Thats my bit
Cheers

I would look towards the manufacturers literature. I don't trust Carsales or RedBook info. The Vehicle Towing Mass guide that I refer to gives 3,000 kg max, max ball weight 300 kg, Tare and GVM vary considerable depending on the variant but the majority have a highest GVM of 2930 kg and a GCM or 5700 kg (that means a fully loaded tug can only tow 2770 kg.)

Would you want to be towing that full time though or over any distance ??
Takes weight to control weight ...

Depends on the model and year, but later models are 3000Kg for Manual and 2500Kg for Auto. Ozjohn.

Don't quote me on this.... But I'm fairly sure that when I drove road trains, the tow didn't weigh as much as the trailers behind me.................. And that was only 2, let alone 3.......
cheers,
