Hi all it seems to have been forever since I managed to find time to post on the forum, this travelling life is just too hectic.
I can remember reading a post in December last year about happy hours not being common, ( http://thegreynomads.activeboard.com/t55832814/happy-hours/ ) I did not comment at the time, I considered myself too new to the lifestyle to pass a judgement now I can truly and respectfully say ........ Rubbish!!!!!
Travelling full time now since sept 2013 and ignoring the time we spent with some great friends at Greens over Xmas and new year I Can state that we have had had "happy hour" more often than not, and at least 3 nights out of 5 that we have people around us. If we had to put a number on it I would say that it's at our place half the time but it doesn't really matter, the important thing seems to be that if you are willing to extend a hand of friendship then others will do the same. We have met many wonderfull people, some we can class as friends and will / do keep in touch with others aqua instances that we may never meet again, some that we would rather not have met in the first place, but each has added to our adventure in their own way.
I guess the main comment I would like to make is that if you really feel that happy hours don't happen, take a look at yourself and ask , WHY.

I share ya sentiment Poppy ... been travelling full-time for nearly six years now. I have certainly encountered, and participated in, quite a few happy hours but they certainly have not been the "rule" but rather the exception.
Overall, I guess I just have to take your advice coz the greater majority of fellow-travellers I meet seem to not get together at the camps I end up staying at.
It must be me - and to that end - so be it ... such is life

Certain lovely people to put out the welcome mat. And sometime its hard for others to get out of their comfort zone.
I can't think of a better way to spend an hour or two.......on ya Paul!!!!

We don't travel full time but spend as much time as we can on the road..
Like the OP is saying it is up to you you and you to have a happy hour..
Everytime we pull up somewhere we always put out atleast 2 extra chairs and at the moment we have 4 extras out and there isn't a day goes past that all the chairs aren't full..

Happy hour is alive at Dickabram Bridge. John & Marjaliene (Cruisin Cruze) have joined us here. Lovely spot & now we have lovely neighbours. Cheers Alice

If you want happy hour all you have to do is extend a greeting, smile at the same time, and almost always the other people would love to have happy hour as well, takes someone to break the ice, after that, ENJOY

pulled up at chatsworth park north of gympie last week,we set up and said lets walk the dog around the parked vans ,got to the 1st van and left 4hrs later after sharing a drink(or2) a bbq dinner music and made new friends from 2 other vans and 2 different parts of Australia.btw we had only travelled 1 hr from sunshine coast great night!!

Yep - make the effort - smile, say g'day - if you see a group, sitting around - take a drink and walk up, say - hi - can we join you guys for a chat? can meet some great people that way - we have just spent four days with some friends at their place, we met them on the road two years ago, and have kept in touch - had a terrific time, and will catch up again, either on the road or at their place.

Hi all. wandwill and jules47 summed it up nicely. We adopt the attitude " There are no strangers only friends we have yet to meet". Not only that if you aren't at my HH when I'm parked nearby I'll send the dogs to round you up. Yip yip.
