He was a member of The Weavers when they sang the original Goodnight Irene back in the early 1950s .
He sang a lot of Bob Dylan stuff and wrote a lot of protest type songs himself . . . . Little Boxes comes to mind .

Gday...
and Bob Dylan (along with dozens more of that ilk) sang lots of Pete's songs too.
Great man, great songwriter - will be missed.
Heaven is certainly becoming full of the best musicians - will be a good place to get to one day.
Cheers - John

Seeger was charged with singing songs for the communists during the '50s. Can you believe that nonsense? The charge was dropped on appeal.

Rest in peace, Pete. You were one of my inspirations in the 1960s (and what a really GREAT decade that was).
The lyrics of Little Boxes are well worth listening to in modern Australia, pointing out the sad banality of life for the iPhone generation . . . years and years before the iPhone was even heard of.
A big loss of genuine talent.
Cheers, Tony

Having said that, here, in celebration of my guru-dom, are the lyrics:
Little boxes on the hillside
Little boxes made of ticky tacky
Little boxes
Little boxes
Little boxes all the same
There's a green one and a pink one
And a blue one and a yellow one
And they're all made out of ticky tacky
And they all look just the same
And the people in the houses all go to the university
And they all get put in boxes, little boxes all the same
And there's doctors and there's lawyers
And business executives
And they're all made out of ticky tacky and they all look just the same
And they all play on the golf course and drink their martini dry
And they all have pretty children and the children go to school
And the children go to summer camp
And then to the university
And they all get put in boxes, and they all come out the same
And the boys go into business and marry and raise a family
And they all get put in boxes, little boxes all the same
There's a green one, and a pink one
And a blue one and a yellow one
And they're all made out of ticky tacky
And they all look just the same
