Ya know, I've had a whinge or 2 in the dog forum, got on my friggin' high horse, if I'm honest. Not proud of it, but I am prone to an opinion or two when provoked.
but I've sat back and asked myself "Sal, what do u want next in life". I want to hit the road, that's what.
My last short trip away was 'the decider'. It was fabulous, until someone started hanging "****e" on me. I'm 'weird', I need to change this about myself etc, etc. I drove away in tears. That later turned to anger.
With reflection, it's not easy travelling solo. There's no one to turn to when some idiot starts on you, for starters. I worry, mainly, will it be safe. Will peeps whinge about my dogs, who I never leave alone. That is hard for me. Sometimes 5 minutes alone would be a blessing. But, I can't leave them now, and I wouldn't want to. I wouldn't feel safe without them at night.
and I have concluded
A: The folk that want to sort my life out, should probably worry more about their own, even if they meant well.
B: not everyone will like me or my dogs, or my cigarettes. And as dogs go, they r very well behaved. Other people's words, not mine.
C: life's for living.
D: how bloody lucky am I to be in my 40's and hit the road?
it was optimism that saw me backpack a lot of the world in my 20's. Optimism that saw financial gains in my 30's, and optimism that got me a good career in my early 40's.
and it is with optimism and a good attitude that I hope to hit the road in a few months.
I am what I think. What I think, I attract. So screw the pessimists.
I can't wait to meet happy folk on the road (so long as my house sells, I'll be optimistic about that too :). )

Good onya Sally. Just go do it. You will be safe on the road. There are plenty of friendly positive people out here, more than the other kind from what I have observed. Looking forward to seeing you hit the road and hopefully meeting up somewhere for a drink or two around a camp fire.
Good luck with the house.

Hi 333
I have just completed my dual cert 4 in a community services field and something I learnt that applies to all parts of my life is that (as long as I am doing nothing to hurt or harm others) what other people think of me is none of my business....in other words, you can only please one person at a time and that one person is you! (and your dogs)
If I see you camped up at any time I will come and say Hi......
The only thing I would say as a non home owner think carefully before selling your home given the way the world seems to be going these days......
Catch you out there one day

Hi Annie,
funnily enough, I'm looking at doing Cert iii in aged care. I may even start studying it on the road. I like the old, old folk, always have, they can be like kids and come out with some monstrous things ;) that crack me up, and they really appreciate being looked after In their own homes.
Also, it is my intention to buy somewhere again, in a warmer climate. If I'm liking the road, I'll rent it, if not, I'll stay put.
And yeah, I gotta toughen up on the 'what other folk think' palava

Hi there. I read your post and feel I must put fingers to the keys. I have empathy with your feelings. One thing I had to learn as a young salesman is that some people you meet do not like you. I was too sensitive and I took rejection of my product and me too seriously. So, a career in sales was not my calling. Them people are still out there but it is now like water off a duck's back. I don't dwell on such issues any more and just get on with trying to enjoy each and every day as it comes. What's their problem? Ha! Ha!
I think you should be very proud of yourself. You have been successful within each of your "ten year packets" and have shown much courage to make the decisions necessary to achieve what you have. Sure, it is great to have a partner that backs you but in the end it is me and me alone that does the work and takes the pain. Long hours of study, putting the money to the mortgage and kids, forgoing fun when duty calls and never quitting.
"The more people I meet - the more I like my dog!" If I meet someone who does not like dogs I start to wonder about them. Have they ever had a true friend? All our dogs through my life came from the pound. Dad looked for abused dogs because he knew that once he adopted and cared for them they would love him forever. I still remember as a kid (and big kid) sitting on the back step and talking to our dog. Little did I know just how good that therapy was. Our dog agreed with everything I said, was never critical and if I wasn't quick enough I got a big tongue kiss on the face to end our talk.
I wish you the best of times in whatever you do next. (Thoughts of the Hobbit come to mind. I remember how safe and comfortable he was but the adventure gave him so much more). Midget Farrelly, our 1st World Champion Surfer, said after the win: "If you feel comfortable (on a wave) you are dead.

I worked out some time ago that some people just won't like me. That's cool, because there are some people I just don't like too. The main thing is I like me, and so do my dogs and my family. Surely that's all anyone really needs
PS
I'm afraid my little dog will try to attack your big dog too. Don't take it personally, he's a rescue dog with issues and I promise to restrain him

"As good as you are
As bad as I am
I'm as good as you are
As bad as I am.
"I do my thing and you do your thing.
I am not in this world to live up to your expectations,
And you are not in this world to live up to mine.
You are you, and I am I,
and if by chance we find each other, it's beautiful.
If not, it can't be helped.
