I am looking for a camping/rest area where one can do an overnight stay. The place I have in mind in on the Pacific Highway, on the left heading north and is between Newcastle and Port Macquarie. I think it is probably closer to Port. I have seen and driven past many times and usually seen vans early morning or late in the afternoon.
Your help here would be appreciated.

There's a very large o/night rest area on left of the Pacific Hwy just before the Taree exit.

Gday...
I assume you mean the Four Mile Hill Rest Area just south of the Taree turnoff on the Pacific Hwy.
If so, these give some idea of what it looks like.
And these are the coordinates if that is the one - -31.963959,152.465297
We usually make it an overnight stop when we are heading north...
My only advice is to park away from where the trucks pull in to check their load and pull down.. As you always should in a shared parking area..

There are several between the Castle & port of call, including the one stated.
Depending how far you are heading as there is another one on the river bank at Telegraph Point, about 20clicks nth of the Port turn off.
Heading nth, turn left at the Taven/Squash courts, turn right behind the taven & follow for about 500mtrs.
Havent stayed there as its only a half hr from home. Seen a few there.

I stayed there overnight about 2 years ago, a lovely spot, but I checked a year or so ago and there was a "no camping" sign in the carpark so I moved on to the BP roadhouse.
I think it may have changed a bit since I been up that way. There were quite a few rest stops along that area though.

Thank you all. Rockylizard thank you but this is not the place I had in mind. I think it may be Burrawan rest area. As you head north, you look down below the road.

Devderall hi.
I believe you mean the one north of the or not long after the Wauchope turn off on the left heading north which is being changed.
There maybe 2 sites not far apart one for cars only and other shared with transports.
Burrawan Rest area 10 ks north of Kew, thats the near Wachope turn off.
The one I like is Tom Cat Creek 5 ks north of Moorlands, spent a few nights there over the years as transport driver and I notice they have spent some money there of late after doing the road, I think it was closed for while. Cheers

I've stayed overnight at Tom Cat Creek and Wang Wauk Rest areas a few times and they were fine. I've stopped at Burrawan many times through the day, and it's a nice area too. I've stayed at many RAs between Sydney and Brisbane and with a few other travellers around I feel quite safe. For what it doesn't cost a bit of road noise is fine.

Coopernook is a good spot but maybe a bit off the road for an overnighter. 4 ks dirt road near mooreland. Large grassed area with a loo. We camped almost a week there a few years back
only problem with it was a few ferrels call it home. camps 7 - site 88
