We have a Dometic 3 way fridge which has stopped working on 12v when towing. We have just arrived in Adelaide and will be here for next month before moving on.
Spoke to Dometic who reckon it is probably wiring issue as wiring used when installed is not heavy enough?? Currently charged via 7 pin plug. May be able to look at changing to run through andersen plug
Anyone know of caravan fridge mechanic who will come to you. We are based at Brighton at the moment
Thanks
Peter

Welcome To the gang Peter, enjoy here and out in the playground.
Now as to you question, I do not know any there sorry BUT I agree it could be just the wiring as yes CV manufacturers do not use heavy enough wire.
I have a Duel DC - DC Ctek Smart Charger set up and 6B&S cable direct from the tug battery to the charger Via Anderson Plugs then 6mm wire from the car side of the charger going to the back of the fridge, works like a dream.
Maybe try a Auto electrician or someone knowledgeable in 12v wiring first.

Hi Peter
If it was working previously it may not have the ideal wiring installed but this is not going to be the problem you have now, it may be a blown fuse or a broken wire most likely spot will at the 7 pin connectors on the van or car.
If you are able to fault find, buy a cheap multimeter at Jaycar or Dick Smiths and see if you have 12v to the connector block at the back of the fridge, pull the 3 pin plug to the fridge before delving in the back of the fridge
If no 12v check the 7 pin connector on the car for 12v output if you don't know which pin numbers etc Google 7 pin caravan connector wiring for details.
Or take the car to an Auto electrician to check that you have 12v to the 7 pin connector this will be cheaper than getting a fridge mechanic out to check the fridge as it will only take the electrician a couple of minutes to check that you have 12v to the socket on the car.
If all checks out ok with the car and you still don't have 12v at the back of the fridge you have a break in the wiring from the 7 pin plug to the connector on the back of the fridge.
Cheers
David

Peter, there is a mobile caravan repairer called Slades ph 0400 283 596 but do not know if he repairs fridges. Might be worth a call.

Thanks for the welcome. Been meaning to sign up for some time as we are permanently on the road.
Thanks for the various offers of advice.
Will start with pin voltage but will probably upgrade wiring in any case
Cheers

There is also a chance you have a blown 12v element in the fridge..
