Could somebody please tell me why it is that when people are on holidays, they deem it necessary to be awake at some ungodly hour in the mornings, like from 5:30am onwards, and then feel that it is a fine time of the day to start banging their tent pegs in, just in case, banging and clanging around their vans, tents, or whatever.
I am fascinated by it all, and OK I will admit get a little testy also when woken at this time of the morning for no good reason.
Now if there is a good reason for all this noise and I am doing something wrong or missing out on something that I "should" be doing then by all means I will join the fray and make the noise to. I have wracked my brain and can think of no reason, and here I am at 8:30am wondering if it is too early to put the awning back out after I pulled it in yesterday in gale force winds.
Of course this could just be me having a whinge and I can hear John getting those pills out now. Sorry John, I think maybe I might need a bucket of them this morning. Hey other than that it is a great life and I am smiling. Have a good one everyone.

Why oh why do some people stay up so late at night keeping others awake?
Its just the way it is, we gotta try to put up with it.

We are always early to bed, early to rise (me at least)BUT sure get cranky also with the noise some make, late at night or early in am. hard to get out of habit of rising early after doing it all our lives although Bruce has managed to sleep in now quite easily & sure wish that I could do the same.

I find the early morning the most enjoyable part of the day.
When caravanning, I usually wake at first light & if near water take out the Javelin kayak for a leisurely one or two hour quiet paddle. Then on to the push bike, if the wind's not blowing too hard, off for a ride (no hills) for another hour or so.
By the time I'm back to the van I quietly make breakfast for me & SWMBO, who has enjoyed her sleep in.
I do all of this with a minimum of sound even down to unzipping the annex walls with a finger on the zip track to lessen the noise.
What a great way to start the day .. ready to just lounge about or go shopping (SWMBO's favourite) or do the touristy things.
Come evening, we eat outside at dusk & then I sit out under the awning with a good book for an hour or so while SWMBO watches her favourite TV. I'm off to bed by 7.30 with an eye mask & the sound turned down.
We are always VERY conscious of the noise we make & its effect on other caravanners.

It's all about respect for other people, and those people obviously had none. I imagine they reap what they sow.

I have a good friend who being an ex farmer gets up daily at 4-30/5-00AM at home or away, its just what he has always done, but, he is very considerate and never disturbs others who like us get up a little later.
I go to bed around 9-30 most nights but my wife likes to read till maybe 11-00, we co exist by her not waking me when she retires and me not waking her when I rise.
As said its respect and thought for others, something nowadays seems to be getting in very short supply.

What gets to me are the ones who are leaving that day, and feel the need to start their motors to "warm them up", running them for sometimes up to half an hour!!!!!!
I didn't think modern cars needed to be "warmed up"??

Jules..
I also hate the early riser's that make a ton of noise..
- the issue with the motor running for a Warm up..
Early Morning if cold or Cool with my falcon.. work's best is I start the car and Let it Idol for a few min.. 5-6min.. The motor is getting on in age and the petrol to Gas Switch over like the motor to be a Little bit Warm first thing..
But then that is me..
Just a Few min's on idol first thing before you drive off..

I'm an early riser, around 6.00 a.m. The important point is having respect for others nearby.

On the other hand I normaly rise about eight and have often been suprised at how quiet people can be. When I go to bed I am surrounded by vans, only to rise and find them all gone and I have not heard a thing. Landy

Ummmm could I suggest that if noise at night or early morning bothers you then you invest in a set of ear plugs - available quite cheaply from any pharmacy.

I hated to wear ear plugs when I was working and sure wont wear them now I am retired. I can not stand anything in my ears or my eyes.
If it is noisy where I am I move. I don't notice cars/trucks etc when camped near highways (usually prefer to camp away though) but if someone talks a half a mile away I seem to be able to hear it. Perhaps due to some of my jobs where I was required to be aware of my surroundings even when asleep. One of the joys of skippering a working boat, we often ran the refrigeration motor when in port so we could sleep.

I agree with shekon. The only noise I can tolerate at 5:30 AM is the twitter of birds, except those that are nesting in my gutter.

How do you keep cool in summer?

We rarely use our AC. (Both at home & in the van)
Have been guilty on one or two occasions in the Kimberlies of leaving it on during the day while off touring.
I sometimes use it to cool down the van for an hour or so after returning to a very hot locked up van.
Can't stand sleeping with the AC going, so I installed a fixed, cheap but quiet elec fan than blows on to the bed area during the night. At home, we use the ceiling fans on low during hot summer nights.
We carry a dismantled pedestal fan to use in the annex on hot days.
A soaker hose misting the air up wind, cools the BBQ area at home on very hot days. Using tank water of course.
Works for us.

I can tolerate the low, monotonous tone of a fan, as long as doesn't rattle or have a noisy bearing, but if it's going to bother others, then I'll have to do something else. In fact I find the sound to be soothing and conducive to sleep. When I was young, I used to grab an hour of sleep during night shift in a rolling mill where you had to shout to be heard.
