any help appreciated please, after a recent hail storm on the Sunshine coast my two roof hatch covers received damage & need replacing, all i need are the two perspex smoked covers only, i have tried three repair / spare parts places on the coast & it seems that all they want to do is supply me the total hatches at around $700 each !! simple i thought, easy to fit, easy to replace, not so ! They all want to send out someone to inspect & push me into Insurance claims, the cost of those covers will be / should be way less than my excess, so not interested in claiming.
If any one in the Melbourne area would know of a decent supply shop i would be so happy, i know the sizes of each hatch & the brand is:
1 x Heki Mini
1 x Heki Midi
Ps; My van is a "New age" Big red 17ft
Many thanks
Dave

Not sure how bad your hail damage is but here is a temp solution if it suits.
Most of the Auto stores sell a special tape to repair tail lights comes in red amber and clear.
I used it on my tail light on a Suzuki that actually doesn't have globes in the fitting(Purely Cosmetic)
I have a friend whose Perspex skylights on his van were damaged during a Tornado last January. I gave him the roll of clear tape and he used it to repair a large crack and cover a missing piece of the Perspex cover. Had a few storms since then and it's been 100%. So good he's decided not to replace the cover and just keep an eye on the tape.
Hope it would work for you depending on the extent of the damage.

Does it need to be domed ?????
I just had a look at the 2 in our bus and a flat piece of that really strong Plastic/Perspex would do the job provided it was cut exactly to size as would a piece of laminated glass.
Don't know whereabouts you are now, but Bests Caravan Repairs in Hervey Bay would have them on the shelf for considerably less than you have been quoted I can tell you!

Happened to my motor home a couple of years ago. Left the hatches up by mistake and a branch cracked them badly.
I cut two big plastic patches out of a clear water container and glued them on with fast cure two part epoxy resin.
Comes in squeeze out tubes easy to get, mix and apply. I always keep some handy.
Then duct tape over the top (tight) so they shape correctly, and carefully remove the duct tape after a few days.
If a piece of plastic is missing, does not matter, cannot see it at all.
They are still there to day. I was quoted $500. to replace the covers. Might replace them some day, but it looks ok.

Dave, how much is your excess? In the link that Juergen gave the cost of the Midi Skylight 700mm x 500mm. cover is around $250. The cost of the Mini Heki Skylight. is around $210. Add freight to those prices and I think you would find an insurance claim would be the way to go.

Hi PeterD,
I was just quoted $268 for the Mini, They are getting back to me with the Midi price, My excess is $400.00, so as the van is just on a year old, they are going to repair the hail damage on the front of the van as well, which to be honest i wasn't going to worry about, they told me as i have rating one for life I wont lose my No Claims.
