Making a Doona with combined bed / mattress topper...

Just thinking on the need to have the bedding on a single bed...read 2' 6" or 76cm., stay tucked under mattress on one side and not end up on the floor.
My thoughts, would love some additions to this...Ikea sells...think it's called a bed topper and they make the bed with the btm sheet tucked under this. Like a mini mattress.
What about if it was inside a single doona cover, maybe it could be cut back and poppers or press studs or Velcro dots attached along the long side to give access to taking out the bed / mattress topper.
On the other side it could be stitched to a second doona cover, I'd probably use another single one but not alter the size. In cooler weather I could put a doona in and in summer just leave as a cover.
Easy to chuck off to get out of bed but due to being machine stitched on the long side to the bottom doona containing topper when you're lying in bed nothing is going to fall/slip off. Wonder if Clark
Rubber would have an alternative to the Ikea thing as they are closer to drive to.
Would this work, think there's some old doona covers around, would be just the topper or whatever to purchase. Wouldn't need sheets then. Of course this could also be a mad idea...but maybe not.

We use fitted bottom sheets- took the mattress inside and cut down single sheets exactly as I wanted... mitred corners and ran elastic around.
The top sheet is fitted on the bottom end also - I cut it to fit and mitred the corners, then ran elastic around.
We cover the bed with throw rugs in summer - easy care ones.
In winter, a single doona - haven't cut it up, but poke it firmly into the tight space between the bed end and the cupboard- doesn't move. This year I swapped my doona for a heavy crocheted rug- works for me, and doesn't move as long as its tucked in at the bottom.
I must say I have been tempted to try sleeping bags !

That's what I had been thinking about, but I really don't like them as you've got to get out of them, don't like undoing the zip, just want to chuck bed clothes back and hop out...
could be in a hurry !

And why is it always such a tight space between the mattress and the side wall? I love having twin beds (more space, personal amount of blankets etc) but they are so hard to make up the first time when it's wintertime. We put the tight fit down to forgetting the edge binding on the mattress when we gave the measurements to have them made up.

ooooh bit expensive, but that looks similar to what I've been thinking about, looks very neat and tidy, has memory foam in the base, I don't know that other than for a bathmat.
I'm about to have my first trip....well next week leaving Tuesday 26th. Have to be home for 7th Dec,...Christmas party.
I'm thinking to remove 2nd bed and put in more cupboards, place for ppotty, hanging space and place to have a plastic 4 drawer set in behind a door. Bought a $5 saucepan with lid very
light, use less gas to heat, no kettle yet. I'll have the most important things, stitching and reading and a book light to read by when it's dark.
I have bare essentials, my dau and g'dau slept in the van and said the doonas fell off both beds. Although beds were comfortable.
I started thinking what I could do, thought of partially unpicking a dble sleeping bag, take zip out. Fabric of sleeping bag is nylon or flannelette lining, generally so hot and not good to wash all the time.

It's your first trip, don't stress! Tuck your doona at the base and down the wall side.............. maybe you won't even need it at all!
My advice. leave the second bed where it is- better resale. Also, unless you intend to live in the van, the more storage ou have, the more you'll carry "just in case" and probably never use.............unless its craft storage, and thats a different matter

Maybe you could add a piece of fabric about 50cm wide to the side or bottom of the doona cover, it gives you something to tuck in. I did this for the camper-trailer bed which used to lose the doona off our feet ... worked a treat.
