I just checked his name. He deleted himself in August. That's a shame. Nice bloke.

We have lost some very good members which is quite normal for any forum, but the antics of a few need to be reigned in, there is a difference between the headings for postings and this should be respected. e.g. "General knowledge " is precisely that, not a primary school sandpit, try "I digress" for the playground stuff.
A recent post tried to address this problem, it is now "locked" maybe we need a serious discussion, out in the open.

Life's way too short for "un called for and rude PM's" They are not necessary and Fortunately I have only had positive and encouraging PM's but if I were to get a nasty one, scrap it, not worth the effort to finish reading it. They are only low life's that send them anyway.

Hi all, Just a reminder that rude or abusive PMs are not tolerated on this forum. However, I cannot take action if I do not know about a problem. Please ... if anyone knows of anyone who has been misusing the private messaging system, contact me immediately and I will take the appropriate action. This is, above all, a friendly forum and is a place where people can exchange stories and advice in what should always be a cheerful and positive environment ... even when there are differences of opinion. Please let me know of any problems.

Cindy - a good post - thank you - personally, if I have something to say, I will say it on the open forum - it is a bit weak to send a private message to vent your opinion. I use the PM system as it is intended to be used, a means of communication with friends and fellow GN's - as do others I know.
I know that there are personality clashes on here, like anywhere else in life, but if you don't like someone or something they say - just hit the button and move to another post!!!! Simple really, nobody is forcing anyone to read a post.

Jon left the forum once before and it took members a long time to entice him to rejoin the forum.
I hope he does eventually return again, I'm sure most here would welcome him.

Landfall - a discussion on an open forum would or could turn into a sledging session, don't you think? If someone has a problem with a particular person, they should address that to Cindy - and maybe have the courage to post a constructive comment to the particular poster, without abusing them I would hope.
As said before, if you don't like a post - don't read it!!!!!!

We all do it from time to time, I know - me included
I doubt if anyone sees the same problem with the I Digress sub-forum - I enjoy the senseless babble, jibe and return jibe and humour that is often found there. Wears a bit thin when it permeates the other sub-forums.
Add to this, the problem of the typed word being the worst way to convey feelings as each of us read the written word with our own emphasis and tone - fraught with misinterpretation.
Guess there's no answer - just be tolerant of the 'off topic' things not in I Digress and for those who post and add comment, be thoughtful of those who may not share the camaraderie of the participants.
Despite being a "forum butterfly", I find this forum the best and I wander its corridors endlessly - savouring all its good features ... and friendly, experienced and informative participants. Add to that the wit and humour of the group and it is well worth the visit.
Cheers - happy travelling and may I not transgress further - John

How do you know you don't like a post/reply if you don't open or read it?
Maybe a little self control by members to stick to the topic and take the time to use the "search" facility might stop a lot of the duplication and playground stuff.
I thought I did have the courage to post the problem as I see it.

True RL - that is the problem I found with "subscribing" - so I decided I wouldn't do it - my email is busy enough without that - plus I like "strolling through" the various topics -
This is a great forum - lets keep it that way - don't take things too seriously, let the little things slide - leaves more time for the big things - like travelling!!!

I for one would like to see Jon come back, I enjoyed his posts.
I generally enjoy the forum, and the banter and joviality that permeates it.
From time to time I find that I am busy with other things, a bit distracted, try to read a serious post, and I find the banter childish and annoying. That's when I know it is time to give the forum a rest until I am in the mood again.
I generally accept that when something that involves a group of people, different views, opinions and attitudes that I generally enjoy becomes less than enjoyable the problem is not with the gathering, it is with me.
I do not like the "everyone else is the problem" approach, it just does not sit well with me.
I hope if anyone finds what I post, or send in the occasional PM annoys them, that they would tell me directly.

Now I've just read all those posts and while I agree with some and don't agree with some, all I need do is move to the next thread without creating a fuss. It's a free forum and folk are free to say what they like (within the guidelines) with the monitoring being done by our great webmaster Cindy.

I'd much rather be on a forum where there's a bit of banter (especially when its outside serious posts) than forums where members are nasty to each other.... I could name a few.
Sorry Jonathon has left but we all have a place in each others lives, sometimes for a lifetime, or just a season, then we move on.
Thank you Cindy for your management of this forum, you keep us in line very well.
