I was able to talk to the company fitting the new awning this morning I had phone reception from Chinchilla. They can fit it on Wednesday morning in Maroochydore. So that gives me a couple of easy days before then. I have driven towards Wondai and turned off to Kingaroy and am camped at Wooroolin Rest Area Camps6 #561. Very handy place this with $2 showers and plenty of room to camp opposite a café open until 6.30pm, no way am I cooking tonight.
Bought the oil, filter remover and filter at Repco in Chinchilla and did the job here before a nice hot shower. Only 170kms today and tomorrow 170kms to stop overnight at Jawarra Park 1km west of the Landsborough/Caloundra turnoff and an easy drive to Maroochydore. Again am without phone and no Telstra internet either expect to post this from Kingaroy. Nothing happening here and no one else camping but it is a wetlands area and it is good to see the green grass after all that brown stuff. John

Tuesday and everything going to plan was able to post at Kingaroy and catch up then on via Nanango and Kilcoy to Jawarra Park, lots of activity here apparently it is a drop off place and people were coming to pick up friends dropped off from buses and there is an airport transfer Hi Ace waiting.
The camp is alongside a National Park and there are a couple of walks listed so I got my back pack loaded it with food and drink and put on my golf shoes then set off. It appears that the Mooloola River Circuit was only 500mtrs and the Melaleuca Walk was 1.3kms so I was a bit over prepared. Not to worry it was a lovely walk after seeing some National Parks in Central Queensland, this is almost like a Tropical Rainforest compared with the brown stunted offerings elsewhere. John

Thanks Jules, I should receive it when I get to the Gold Coast later this week. Good to get the oil change done and good to be reminded it was too black and needed changing. John

Ha Ha, I remember when I was in Cairns a local called Townsville "Brownsville" as they don't have the lush green vegetation that Cairns had according to him.

I didn't think that the coast was overly dry but it was at the Lava Tubes and worse at Hughenden but the worst dry area in my observations was Winton.
Dry all the way back to Charleville and am pleased to be back on the coast and sitting by a broad river with no chance of it drying up.

Being a Townvillian? , I take offense to anything a Cairns person says about my home town. I live in the dry tropics, and Cairns get 3 times the rain Townsville gets. Cairns also has a picturesque mudflat in front of town, and we have a lovely beach with a great water feature.Gofor a walk down the Strand if you can. A past Mayor named Tony Mooney took greening of Townsville to heart, and now its nearly as green as The wet tropics, nth of here.We get 320 days of sunshine a year, so they should call it the the sunshine capital of NQ. Bill

I like Townsville - and yes, there are some beautiful areas of the city - down by the waterfront is lovely, makes for a great walk. Some of the park areas along the river are pretty nice as well.

Townsville runs rings around Cains, in every aspect....People must remember QLD has more than half the state in drought at this very moment...so a little hard to have lush green grass and what does one expect in places like Winton it is the out back after all...But still beautiful in it's own rugged way.

The remarks were made about 13 years ago, don't know if Qld was in drought then, around June/July I think it was. Loved Townville, spent two weeks there and loved every minute of it. Wasn't that keen on Cairns, but the Atherton Table Lands were fantastic...
