I think that John is using the Optus network and he may have difficulty getting a signal through them. He will have to get himself a 3G antenna. It may help his situation.

I am on a $20 a month phone plan with Telstra and because I own the phone the plan is reduced to $15pm. I also have a free hour which is handy to make phone calls in. You can choose which hour that you would like.
I hope that this helps.

Decided to go to the Artesian Springs in Mitchell after a sign at the free camp Neil Turner Weir Camps6 #659 said that it was free. No such luck it was only $8 for the day but I decided not to participate. Instead of returning to the camp I decided to move on and headed for Roma where I did get phone reception but only emergency contact. The road was very slow with lots of road works they are making a big thing of getting the Roma to Mitchell section of the Warrego Highway up to scratch.
Had a look round Roma and drove to Judd's Lagoon Camps6 #643 near Yuleba. Had planned to camp there but it was deserted and the lagoon looked very yellow and muddy. My next planned stopover was at Gil Weir just south of Miles Camps6 #589 and here I am again on my own, I must be in the camps at the wrong time or in the unseasonal climate so it looks like another one night stopover with me back in Miles tomorrow morning trying to contact the Caravan company who are doing the new awning.
I am now only a couple of stops away from Maroochydore so it is imperative that I make contact soon. Judd's Lagoon the first 2 with a sunset at Niel Turner no.3 the last 2 are Gil Weir John

I would have thought Roma was a big enough town for you to get reception John. Sounds strange.
Is it still hot out there. Don't think I will go too far out west when I head south in the next few weeks.

Yes that is a worry using the Amaysim network via Optus and to complicate matters more the smart phone I bought to go across the top was waterproof and dustproof and has no opening to plug a patch into so my antenna is useless.
I have a Telstra dongle for the internet but the phone is usually not a priority for me it is only this situation that is a worry.

John, do not know if this bit of info will be of any help to you, back in our earlier days of travelling before I sorted out all the talco stuff regarding service,we used to go into the (what they were called back then ) Tele Centres most small to med towns have them, some are located inside the tourist info centres ,they used to let you make a quick phn call to anyone inside Oz and even overseas but had to pay for those calls.
