I'm suffering from my first cold since 2005... the reason I know that, is the use-by date on a packet of Strepsils I have kept "just in case" was 2005!
And I want to get better FAST!
Having travelled all the way from south coast NSW to Brisbane to help my daughter who's in hospital, by minding their 3 yr-old, so Son-in-Law can go to work, I am now quarantined!!
Please does anybody have a cure, herbal or otherwise that will help ?

Vicks or eucalyptus - rub it on the soles of your feet when you go to bed - it works!!!! Seems to go through the whole body - did you know if you rub garlic on the soles of your feet, next day you will have garlic on your breath!!!!!!
Gosh, I am full of trivia, aren't I?

No, they are all boring !
Hot lemon juice and water, a big spoon of honey with a good swig of scotch whiskey, or irish, or brandy.............. and 2 panadol.
If that doesn't help, repeat without the panadol.

Well the cold lasted a week, as they do, then it turned into sinusitis, for which I'm now on antibiotics. Am cleared to visit the hosp today... at last!
PS Amazing how quick I could get an appointment with a GP in Brisbane, it used to take at least a week in Canberra.

Managed a quick visit with my daughter, but STILL haven't seen those babies, not allowed anywhere near the nursery... !

Oh dear Gerty. Sounds like you were late getting the bug that went around this year. I had 2 bouts of sinusitis and still have the cough that went with it. Hope you can short-circuit it somehow so you can see those bubs.

The only cure for the common cold is time .
If you go to the doctor , you'll get prescription drugs , and it will be gone in a fortnight .
If you go to the chemist , stock up on cough mixture , strepsils , eucalyptus , it will be gone in 14 days .
If you toughen up and do nothing but put up with symptoms , it will be all over in 2 weeks .

.............. unless it's not really just a common cold. It might be Man Flu !
Only cure for Man Flu is 2 weeks in bed, with some one else running the world.
Can't just "put up with the symptoms" its totally paralyzing and so close to death, most men wonder how much worse you have to get before you actually die.

2 and a half weeks now, totally frustrated and upset, still no visit to hospital to see the babies. They want visitors to be cold-free for 7 days before you can go into the premmie nursery, (and that's fair enough) so I feel I'll have to wait a lot longer!.

Frustrating but consider how those babies would cope if they got the flu right now.
Never mind Gerty, you'll have no problem making up for lost time! Not many gandmothers do!

All's well that ends well, the Mum and tiny babies returned to hospital in their home town last week all doing very well. I never saw them up close but its worth it, to ensure they are healthy.
And we are nearly home. But as I sit here in the caravan at Yass with the heater on, I still have that darn sore throat and cough, after 4 weeks.
How long does a cold usually last?

Oh Rosie - that's no good - you do realise that it will disappear now, when you are not near the babies at all!!!!
Take care - you will get to see them soon I am sure!
