Has anyone else noticed the sad way the old country towns are Blogged about, so much negativity...I'm not reading anymore. If museums aren't open maybe you could volunteer, maybe their retired people are off Grey Nomading like you.
We all know they probably never recovered after the 2 World Wars. The younger people have left, and unless they can reinvent themselves...and have people busting to stay for their exciting week or weekend so they can get some funds into their town they look like they could become ghost towns.
My grandparents had a farm in Tullamore, NSW when I was a kid it was a busy town. Quite a few people lived in town. The bread was delivered by the postman 3 times a week along with my school lessons. All changed, now they drive to Parkes, you travelled to Trundle as the Rural Bank was in Trundle, it actually was a busy place always people around. I can remember cars and utes parked up in Trundle
All these towns serviced the farming communities around them. Now it's probably Parkes and Dubbo. But for years now we've had a level playing field and dying towns.
Now shooters gather together and buy cheap farms to shoot wild pigs etc. My aunt used to be a buyer for a dress shop in Trundle, but this was all back in the days when all the roads were dirt and people didn't travel far, Now they saddle up their huge 4x4 and are kms down the black top in a flash.

Not just the shooters buying up a lot of rural land,was watching a program on TV earlier tonight and they were saying how all these overseas countries are buying up big time
Indonesia is looking at purchasing a huge chunk of land to bread their own beef cattle and then send it back over to Indonesia for their own use...No wonder farming is almost a thing of the past for the true blue out back family.... We are selling our land to other countries at an alarming rate.
It makes me wonder what happens when these foreign countries have ownership of most of our farming land,and we are reliant on them to sustain our food chain.
To scary to think about really.

Tullamore does have a good Irish Festival though! And they welcome nomads even when it's not festival time.

Just in our area there are properties that are owned by o/s people - one from Switzerland and one from England - they are the ones I know about. It really is a worry - we should be supplying o/s countries not us buying from them in our own country.
