On the road again after a collapsed idler bearing, a ride in a tow truck and 2 very cool and windy nights at a CP in Geraldton. Ute all fixed now so off to meet up with my travel companions. Off to Mt Magnet then Leinster - Kalgoorlie and back to Perth.
RAC insurance covers - EITHER tow truck OR accommodation/hirecar to value of your package. I have ultimate so up to $3000 per year. Was rather surprised when I rang after being towed as to what else - My 120km tow basically was all available but had I broken down in town the car/accommodation would have been the option!

Glad your back on the road again Spida, sounds like a good time to be visiting the areas you are going to.
Geraldton is know as the "windy city" because of the continual blowy conditions, I even read a report years ago that they had one of the highest suicide rates in WA and the continual winds had some connection with the mental state of those who did it.
Mind you, WA in general can be pretty windy along the coast and anyone who has experienced the "wind tunnel" in St Georges Terrace in Perth would know what that was like. Pretty tough on the girls too having to hold their skirts down, although I don't think the young blokes in the city mind too much, LOL !

Spida - The local pronunciation of Mt Magnet is to drop the "Mt" and the 'n' is silent so the name is pronounce a "Maggot". Not sure what the Kiwi translation is though, maybe Muggit? This is a nice time to be in a part of the world that's pretty ordinary most of the time. I had sisters living in Maggot for a decade or two so I could tell a few tales of the place ....
Sandstone can be nice and I've driven the Leinster to Kal road when the bush from horizon to horizon was nothing but a bed of wildflowers with two tyretracks running through it :)
