OK Mum in respite for 2 weeks, so decided to head off to Adelaide, and then up along the Murray heading towards Melbourne before heading home. I had thoughts of reservations before leaving home when it hit me that in motels nobody talks to you, acknowledges you, locked up in a room. After experiencing the MH lifestyle a couple of times albeit only for short periods I know that this is a much friendlier way to travel. My thoughts did not let me down, yesterday while struggling with a case and some shopping a couple came out of the door to the lift well, looked at me, walked past, and let the door close. I laughed to myself and thought there is the difference. Having struggled with pulling down the awning on the rented MH, people offered assistance without me asking and of course just by the mere act of sitting and reading a book outside people would say hello or stop for a chat.
Nothing wrong with either way of travelling just different that is all. Had not considered the differences previously as I was an addicted motel traveller. So sitting at Glenelg watching the beach and waves, I know that in a MH I could have this every day and if sick of those waves, just drive on and find different ones. Getting closer to making a decision on type of MH I want and the make so hopefully not too much longer and I will join the throngs of GN's out there. So much more freedom.

I would stay in BnBs if I was in that situation. Some great historic buildings to stay in and people are friendly over breaky.
We have our own van, soon to be fifth wheeler, but i have often thought about a couple of weeks staying in BnBs would be nice. Dont like motels much.

You're right about motels shekon, our least favourite kind of accommodation. Country pubs aren't bad, you often have to share bathrooms, and you meet people in the dining room at B'fast. Cheaper than a motel or B & B, but can be noisy if you are right over the bar though.

Years ago a friend at work commented that she and her husband had "higher standards" and would never have a caravan.
I laughed.......... at least in the van the pillows, sheets and towels are my own standard, purchased by me and washed by me.
Same with the crockery and cutlery.
I know who has slept on my sheets and pillows, and f..ked, f..ted and frew up on them as well, to put it bluntly.
Even the view from the windows is chosen by us. Never look out across an alley way, or grungy rooftops.
I've travelled all over this country and the world, and have stayed in all sorts of establishments, for all sorts of reasons, but the accommodation of choice would always be my own if I can.
I'm still laughing at her "high standards".
However, sometimes when I just want to be pampered and spoiled a bit- and a live-in slave isn't an option -, I could be tempted towards 5 star resort with gourmet room service, ****tail bar and its own massage therapist. On such occasions, I too, might lower my standards.

Cabins at van parks are our preference if not towing the van. They can be near the beach whereas motels are usually near the CBD. We found B & B's to cost at least double per night than a cabin - also found we were probably overly cautious about not making any noise.
The problem we felt with a motorhome was that you could not always go where a car could, and depreciation was considerable.

Couldn't agree more. We simply book into a Park cabin and scoot around in the car.
In the van however we avoid these same parks because we're hypocrites... hahaaha.
In our limited travels we have noted that a good park cabin is about the same as a motel per night but is much more sociable in a park as others have also noted.

Ditto....I also love your post Rosie and who could blame you for wanting a little pampering on occasion. We don't like motels and in the past have preferred to stay in BaBs as we enjoyed the friendliness of the owners and other guests especially at breakfast but also the beautiful buildings we stayed at such as old banks, converted convents etc. But soon we will be experiencing the RV lifestyle and really looking forward to it.

Couldn't agree more. We simply book into a Park cabin and scoot around in the car.
