There is a trap for young players when looking for the Calliope River Rest Area and driving from the south, you would think that the camp is in Calliope and take the Calliope turnoff at a bend in the highway with currently huge road works. Not so that road will take you to Biloela without a sign to get you back on the Bruce Highway, that is what I did last year and ended up through Biloela and on to Dululu. This year I was on the lookout and still went into Calliope and had to return to the Highway, but alls well that ends well and here I am back in Calliope River Rest Area.
The crossing into the lower area was blocked today but there must be another way round because there were campers over there. Am set up for a couple of nights taking up the 48hours allowed right on the river side, this morning the place has noticably emptied out but expect another influx as the day goes on. The first pic is from my window. John

Well set up there John - looks good!!! To get to the other side, you go in on a road that I think says "Old Bruce Highway"and turn right off there, at the first entry I think. - looked pretty rough when we went and had a look last year - a lot of the bank and sand area had been washed away this year in the floods - but still heaps of room on the "bottom" side as well as the "top" side. The top side looks a lot drier than when we were there recently!!

Went for a walk to the crossing and took some more pics. Really let go of the purse strings when I went to the kiosk and had pie, chips and Capuccino, that was my treat for the week. John

Looking good, John... love the shower tent and the black shower bag getting warm in the sun. All very cozy indeed. You've been through a lot to get this far, and I'll bet that makes you feel pretty damn good, as well as proud.

I'll have to get a detailed description of how to find it tomorrow John. Couldn't find it at all when I came back from Wuruma Dam.
Cheers,
Sheba.

Yes Gary it has been a lot of work, scrimping and saving to get where I am now but have had a lot of help on the way.
Now I am pleased with the way it has come together, the big gamble has paid off.

John,
I admire you and how you did skimp and save to achieve what you have not only with the coaster but the whole of your travels. You inspire so many.

Glad you had that pie chips and cappuccino! You deserve it. We splurged last week and had fish and chips at Eden. Have to 'break out' occasionally.
