Hi there - any thoughts or advice on Bedford Weir free camp, off the Capricorn Highway near Blackwater. Camps 6 # 328. Just putting together list of potential stops between Wuruma and Longreach and this appears to be a good stop after Duaringa and the stay limit is 7 days and donation is asked only for use, so looking good
Many thanks

Good morning
Yes, it is a great spot. We stayed there a few weeks ago. We didn't have any problem with the caretaker - perhaps they may have changed? It is about 30 klms off the Capricorn Highway from Blackwater on a pretty good road.
Don't forget to go through the Blackwater Coal Centre - lots of info on mining and there are some lovely Japanese Gardens there as well all for a gold coin donation.

Definitely a tick from us as well. We were there almost two years ago, not long after they were flooded out in Qld Floods of 2011. We bought a folder of recipes of the cakes & slices that the caretakers wife put together - still using it today. (funds went to the upkeep of the camp site.
Yes the caretaker was a little bit "over the top" about dogs off leads, however, we have to abide by these rules.

just spent 4 days at bedford weir, not particularly crowded & i foundthe caretakers very helpful and pleasant. No the dogs can not be off-lead, but in a place where there is not much space around the sites i think this is only fair (tho my dogs probably don't agree). The problem I see with dogs off-lead is that you won't know where they have deposited their nuggets, consequently they won't get picked up. Also, dogs just don't always understand a human idea of good manners, and I know mine would want to "scent mark" people's wheels and maybe even tents. I've had other people's dogs "water" my tent & annexe & even tho I travel with 2dogs myself, I really hate that. so if the caretakers seem a bit pedantic about that, just remember that they apply the same rules to their own dogs too!
