Not your fault Gary, you don't get to choose where your born, only which team you follow.

I can't understand how clubs can let their Gun Players play State of Origin...Is'nt winning the premiership more important.....I believe the Broncos had 6 players missing due to this and got a thrashing. I'm not trying to be a smart arse just asking a question.....I can't get my head around it never have

Gday...
Jimbo - over the years, I have come to realise that in QLD and NSW the State of Origin is far more important than any Premiership Series. The NRL is not like AFL which is a religion we love.
And let's be honest, so do the supporters in these two states. Home and away games during the year attract dismal crowds and not much excitement - but put on the SofA and the stands are full, the newspapers, TV and fans are excited and the standard of play is so much better than the normal premiership teams seem to be able to provide.
I cannot stand to watch the NRL ... but watching SofA is a different matter.
OH yeah ... go Maroons - still two to win.
Cheers - John

There's a big campaign about one hit kills and you reckon that 120kg forward belting someone who doesn,t retaliate is not a king hit, but a good thing. He's a dinasuar, and that attitude went out years ago., besides it being illegal. Great way to show your kids how to play the game.Bill

Willy boy, Willy boy , May I be so bold , as to ask WHO threw the first punch in the first State of Origin game, May I even be a little bit more bolder and to say the answer,,, here it is Willy ,, The late Great Arthur Beetson WHO might I say , played for QLD, ,,, stay excited Willy,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Billeeeeee
So, billeeeee, you reckon that the captain of nsw, who king hits an opponent who doesn,t retaliate, is a hero. In any other form of football, he would get at least 6 weeks , if not more. Try the same act in a game of soccer or Afl, and see what happens. I used to have some respect for Gallen, but now I think he's just a thug. Also, this is a great example for all the younger players to see.State of origin should be played with same rules as any other game of rugby league. Its supposed to be rugby, not thugby. Bill

I have to agree with you there Bill. Biffs belong in the Boxing Ring as far as I'm concerned, not on the playing field.
Cheers,

Bumper Farrel was a legend in NSW Rugby League, called the Era of the Biff. Once as a young soldier in company with another, both in uniform, looking around a seedy area of Kings Cross, we got caught up in a police raid, both of us were getting shoved by plain clothes police towards paddy wagons loading up punters at the site. A couple of big hammy fists grabbed me and the mate by the collar and hauled us out of the mob as we neared the paddy wagon loading point. After a pep talk he sent us both on our way much to our relief!. See these links on Bumper...
To us young blokes (both 17 then) Bumper looked about 10 foot tall with a face that looked like it have been run over by a train, cauliflower ears and bent nose. He certainly got our respect that night!
