Currently at Hervey Bay, Just noticed that the modem which was showing full signal strength on 3G, (6 bars) has now changed to 4G with one bar signal & still working fine while I was watching the google earth plane tracker video.
Normaly one bar does not work. Is this going to be a better system when it does get going?

Currently Telstra has a special, their nextG Elite wifi modemn with 5 gig of data 30 day exp $39.00
I am going to try ALDI, in the Telstra next g modem $12.00 for 2 gig.
Some testing we did in the Hinterland Sunshine coast.
We have no 4g or next G reception for voice only text without a Arial.
We found the Telstra elite nextG modem was nearly twice as fast as the Telstra 4G modem when there is no 4G signal connected to 9dm gain multi directional arial and twice as fast again when connected yagi
6 meters high, comparable speeds to our land line ADSL2 speeds.

Hi Jim
4G will be better (than 3G) in the sense of potentially faster download/upload speeds and potentially less 'drop outs'. Of course, it will require a decent signal strength to work 'properly'/optimally and, at present, this means there are only a few places with good coverage; eg built-up parts of the East Coast. I believe Telstra has an advertised 4G 'rollout plan' (although, to be honest, I suspect it may be more of a wishlist )
As far as I know, 4G will not be working 'across Australia' anytime soon and, certainly, will not work at all in many remote areas.

We have found the Telstra Elite nxtG / 3G modemn performs twice as a good as the Telstra 4G modemn where no 4G is available where arials must be used. The YAGI arial beats all others by double. Telstra has a sale elite modems and 5 gig Data Half price. Understand now MrD?
