For heaven's sake, he's an adult, professional sportman being paid hundreds of thousands of dollars a year to chase a ball around a paddock. If he can't cop a bit of barracking from a spectator, he has no place out on that paddock.

What a shame Adam was subjected to this sort of rubbish near the conclusion of the match, the only thing in the young lady's defense was her tender years.
In his usual style he left absolutely nothing in reserve, he has to be one of the top players in the AFL.
I'm a Port Adelaide supporter so am viewing the incident as an outsider.

My how things have changed, as a Hawthorn fan I went to a game against Collingwood last year, and buddy copped heaps, but that was regarded as normal.
This year a young fan calls Goodes an "ape", and it headlines the Melbourne news for 2 days!

My attitude to my wife has changed. I have been violated! All of those years of mentally beating my chest when she called me her big ape for opening jars that resisted her best efforts and gadgets. Mothers need to step in and apply some sense in this instance. They need to be protective too. She was monstered, publicly humiliated and dealt with shamefully. It was fearful theatre, sensationalism, overkill. Do we want to read about another kid hurting herself?

While I abhore racism in every form, I'd like to remind people that every weekend millions of people abuse and gestulate for their tribe. Their tribe might be collingwood, or the blues or heaven forbid the maroons. We are asked to support in a fashion that is religious like, we are asked to be paid up proud and passionate for our teams. I have said some things on field I would never ever say in life, I would also never intentionally run full speed and smash into someone on the street. But I have done that a thousand times on the field. I have been subject to abuse, intimidation,assault and I have also handed this out. Would I do the same now absolutely, would I expect the same absolutely, I consider myself a gentlemen in life and I have always acted that way outside the arena. Passion makes people say and do different things. Adam Goode you handled yourself well but it shouldn't have gotten that far on both sides.

No Santa, I do not think that what she did was acceptable, but I do not subscribe to the theory that people should go to the footy and sit in silence either.
What I disagree with is the fuss Adam Goodes and the Media made out of something stupid a 13 year old girl said.
He is a highly paid professional entertainer and hearing noise from the crowd is part of what he does.
I agree what the girl said was stupid, and not in good taste, but in these days of racial insults it was relatively minor.
There was no need for him to single her out and have an example made of her, she is now going to be punished for that stupid comment for a long time to come.
She is not a highly paid professional trained to deal with these things, she is a highly impressionable 13 year old who will now be punished mercilessly for a stupid comment.
Will she recover, Maybe.
I suppose it makes good television, and that seems to be what matters now.

Me to Dazren I don't care where you come from but if you behave badly I don't excuse you. I live, work and shop in a very multicultural area where there have been many changes over the years in the migration arrivals and settlers and there is always good and bad amongst the mix. I love the diversity, flavours and cost of eating and shopping in my area and welcome all decent front door migrants. Yes Australia has sure changed..

Some of the comments above reveal how little we, as a society, have progressed in the last 50 years. It seems that Goodes is the one at fault because he is aboriginal and, therefore, should just accept he will be vilified. I guess those same people will allow me to make sexist remarks to their wives and then tell them to "grow up" if I have upset them. This is 2013, not 1963, and racist, sexist and disparaging remarks about a person's skin, gender or religion are not acceptable. The ones who should do the 'growing up" are those, IMO, who post about Adam Goodes perceived lack of manliness in the face of a racial taunt.
